Michelangelo is supposed to be bright. maybe smarter than Donatello, at least in terms of brain activity. The kind of guy who can't stand to do exercise or pay attention to boring shit, because his brain's always active and craving more dopamine. Always learning, always finding something new. He's adapted to sewer life by immersing himself in comic books and old movies, and always has the clever thing to say at the right time as a result. But it seems like nobody gets that unless you ARE that. One assumes Eastman and/or Laird were like that, at least sometimes. It takes a sharp mind to be so easily bored by the mundane.

Every fucking character in this movie feels like a hollow shell of themselves. I've only watched it a handful of times, but I always got the distinct feeling that it was written by someone who had never fucking seen a single piece of TMNT media, and wrote all of the characters entirely off of single-sentence descriptions. Every piece of dialogue is just so empty and generic, with some pathetic attempt at flavor tacked on, like, "Oh, this is a Donatello line? I should have him make a joke about... like... a modem or something? Because he does machines. Haha."

Allegedly, writer/director Kevin Munroe was a huge TMNT fan, but I suppose that doesn't necessarily mean he understood the characters well. The only part of the movie with any actual competence or intrigue was the clash between Leo and Raph, and that's not necessarily a dynamic specific to TMNT. It was a fairly generic "lone wolf vs. leader" rivalry that represents the basic id vs ego struggle within us all. Even a broken clock is right twice a day, as they say.

They should allow other three brothers to have their own smart stuff, Instead of making Donnie a know-it-all. They are ninjas, like special forces soldiers. Besides their personal abilities, they are also proficient in at least other areas.

I always saw Mikey as a sort of savant in some incarnations. He could absolutely be the best of them if he really tried, but he knows his brothers don't need more competition. They don't need someone to make them feel inferior. They don't need to be told they aren't working hard enough. They need someone who can lighten the mood and let the pressure off sometimes. And in a fight, they need someone who can have their backs and keep the enemy off-balance.
