>>152055344I love how, in the end, it's Leo who most loses his cool and goes berserk. And because he has no experience with channeling that into useful combat, he's immediately disarmed and about to be killed until Dad shows up. because the ultimate point of TMNT 1990 is 'a good dad is to your character what oxygen is to your blood cells'
>>152055828And then we see it again when Shredder loses his composure upon remembering Splinter and lets himself fly into literal blind rage. Raph's whole character arc about his anger comes full circle.
>>152055344Rock solid analysis. How the fuck did we forget how to make movies even half as good as this?
>>152055972we didn't forget, we just stopped funding it, because you get bigger, shorter-term rewards from schlock. so the older people in charge get, the less they care about the future they won't see
I will always appreciate these movies, yes, even the second and third, for being the ONLY adaptations to get Mikey rightevery other version thinks he's an idiot, because the cartoon basically had to lobotomize him because they gave his basic personality to Raph, who in turn, could not be Dirty Harry on saturday morning. and all the kids go 'haha dumb funny guy' because kids are fucking retards.Michelangelo is supposed to be bright. maybe smarter than Donatello, at least in terms of brain activity. The kind of guy who can't stand to do exercise or pay attention to boring shit, because his brain's always active and craving more dopamine. Always learning, always finding something new. He's adapted to sewer life by immersing himself in comic books and old movies, and always has the clever thing to say at the right time as a result. But it seems like nobody gets that unless you ARE that. One assumes Eastman and/or Laird were like that, at least sometimes. It takes a sharp mind to be so easily bored by the mundane.
>>152056986>even the secondSecret of the ooze is my favorite one. I could quote every single line from that movie before I even learned English.
>>152057180haha, yeah I rewatched it recently and realized I knew every fucking line.. i must have just been obsessively watching. Which unfortunately killed the experience now, since I couldn't see it as characters talking, but only as lines from a movieIt was definitely my favorite as a kid, but yknow, so was ghostbusters 2
1990 Movie Turtles vs MM Turtles
>>152056986I still don't understand why director said this is a sequel to 1990 movies? Apart from the 2007 Raph, the other three brother are worse than the 1990 version.
>>152055344Because he's rude but cool
>You are unique among your brothers, for you choose to face this enemy alone >But as you face it, do not forget them, and do not forget me. I am here, my son
>>152056986>Raph, who in turn, could not be Dirty Harry on saturday morningIncidentally they gave that role to Casey Jones.>youtube removed the Casey Jones Is Insane seriesfor fucks sake. there used to be a compilation of casey jones scenes from the 1987 cartoon, he basically talks like Clint Eastwood turned up to 11, never takes off his mask (even when going on a job interview in a suit), tries punching tanks, and is OBSESSED with punishing lawbreakers.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7LooBslp7fkhttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OGxnvDq07XUshit I can't even find ANY 1987 clips from him now except these two. fucking youtube man.
>>152056928Peter laird of all people?
>>152057897It's got the shelf from the third movie
>>152057897The director wanted TMNT to be a direct sequel to the original trilogy like Superman Returns. The distributors wanted a fresh start.
>>152057897Every fucking character in this movie feels like a hollow shell of themselves. I've only watched it a handful of times, but I always got the distinct feeling that it was written by someone who had never fucking seen a single piece of TMNT media, and wrote all of the characters entirely off of single-sentence descriptions. Every piece of dialogue is just so empty and generic, with some pathetic attempt at flavor tacked on, like, "Oh, this is a Donatello line? I should have him make a joke about... like... a modem or something? Because he does machines. Haha."Allegedly, writer/director Kevin Munroe was a huge TMNT fan, but I suppose that doesn't necessarily mean he understood the characters well. The only part of the movie with any actual competence or intrigue was the clash between Leo and Raph, and that's not necessarily a dynamic specific to TMNT. It was a fairly generic "lone wolf vs. leader" rivalry that represents the basic id vs ego struggle within us all. Even a broken clock is right twice a day, as they say.
It was a good movie
>>152056986I feel like every turtle can be the best turtle depending on how they're presented. Except Donatello. Donatello can never be the best turtle.
>>152059887>>152056986They should allow other three brothers to have their own smart stuff, Instead of making Donnie a know-it-all. They are ninjas, like special forces soldiers. Besides their personal abilities, they are also proficient in at least other areas.
>>152059887
>>152059887Donatello is the best in videogames because his staff has longer reach
>>152056986I always saw Mikey as a sort of savant in some incarnations. He could absolutely be the best of them if he really tried, but he knows his brothers don't need more competition. They don't need someone to make them feel inferior. They don't need to be told they aren't working hard enough. They need someone who can lighten the mood and let the pressure off sometimes. And in a fight, they need someone who can have their backs and keep the enemy off-balance.
>>152057859Is there more of this?
>>152055828>>152057968>Splinter telling Raph to calm down and that his family is there for him>Raphael ignores this >Leonardo and Raphael constantly arguing >Leads to Raph leaving and getting beat up by the foot>Leo feels guilty about this and stays by his side all the time>Raph heals and they apologize to each other >Leads to Raph accepting that Splinter is right and he shouldn't be so angry and accept his brothers help>Leo gets caught by Shredder cause he loses his cool>Raphael is the first to throw his weapons away for his brother This movie is way better than it has any right to be
>>152061582Not til the next issue when it’s Mirage TMNT vs. Rise of the TMNT
>>152061731Cool
Raphael is always the best turtle
>>152063050Based
>>152057859wow, are the cartoon turtles really that much of nerdy bitches?
>>152063101Yes, the Seth Rogan turtles are fucking awful.
>>152057897it's a good movie, but Mike was a fucking travesty. It was always clearly kinda "soft canon" like the other movies SORTA happened here, but aren't required.>>152058032i dont get it. SOMEbody must live near youtube headquarters and can start harassing them daily.>>152058197he tried, SO HARD to make another mature movie with henson suits. when nobody would greenlight it, he got depressed and sold to viacom.
>>152059481>every fucking characterbesides don and mike, everyone seemed finethe weird thing to ME was that, well, Mako sounded like he was dying.. and he was.. but then for whatever reason (solidarity?) Karai is doing the same thing, slurring her speech and sounding ridiculous.>>152059887i liked movie 2 Don a lot, and 2k3 Don, but yeah it's hard for him to shine.
>>152060805yeah when properly written, leo is tactics guy who knows all of sun tzu, raph is wits-about-him guy who can instantly size up a threat, don is book smarts guy, and mike is comicbook smarts guy.>>152061396definitely something to that. I at least enjoy when he's the physically strongest, that suits him>>152061714we really don't deserve it
>>152061714Bububu in the comics it's the other way around!
>>152057180Still love how that one foot soldier who catches the canister at the TCRI building exclaims, "ah ha!"The line delivery in the English version is just something that is permanently lodged in my brain.
>>152064215it really is a downright MUSICAL movie, just every intonation, the cadence of every line..and A little TOO Raph is one of the funniest gags of all time.
>>152061731I found 1990 VS MM short page more memorable than main story. IDW Leo get his ass kicked by Mirage Shredder. Even Savanti said IDW Turtles are the most pathetic turtles.
>>152065042>Even Savanti said IDW Turtles are the most pathetic turtles. And he’s not wrong.
>>152063439>I at least enjoy when he's the physically strongest, that suits himOne of the only good moments out of all of the IDW comics was when Mikey snapped and lost his shit on Splinter, and then fought him without hesitation, and actually started beating him so badly that Splinter had to lie and pretend it was all a test. That same Splinter was shown easily beating all four turtles together, but Mikey can take him alone when he gets serious.
>>152065042It's because they never fucking fight. The delete schizo is fucking annoying, but he's entirely right that the IDW turtles don't fight and don't beat their own villains. Nearly every single bad guy who has been taken down for real was beaten by someone else or some other stupid circumstance. >We can't kill this bad guy for all his genocidal crimes!>In fact, we should have an entire mini-series about how he did all these heinous acts of evil, and then explain that he just cared about his people so that means he shouldn't die>and then 100 issues later, just have the same character who said he shouldn't be killed teleport in and shoot him in the face for his crimes
>>152065801i find it hard to imagine that is better in context than it sounds
>>152065975TMNT Macro Series #2 if you want to see it. He doesn't win, but Mikey is able to fight toe to toe with Splinter and call out all of his bullshit without hesitation.
>>152066037And Mikey is wearing gay-ass thigh highs while doing so.
>>152057859Ogg's still on this tournament arc? I figured the Turtles would have kicked him back to Dimension Z by now.
>>152055344The soundtrack was great but Turtle Power flubbed in a MAJOR way. How? Here's the verse:They were once normalbut now they're mutantsSplinter's the teacherand they are the studentsLeonardo, Michaelangelo, and Donatello make up the teamWith one other fellow: RaphaelHe's the leader of the groupTransformed from the normBy the nuclear goopIf he was the leader, they would all been lead to their deaths because Raphael had a wild hair up his ass and got them killed. He's too harebrained and emotional to make good decisions.I'm glad Ninjara's back, and they even joke about her being Raph's type...but either her new design sucks or the current artist does. Trying to figure out which. She looked good when Ross drew her.
>>152066217This one’s for real. Ogg is having his own personal Battle Nexus away from Savanti using only different versions of the TMNT because they get better merchandise sales.
>>152066252They introduce her into IDW Battle Nexus comic, but for some reason, they decided to make Raph vs his ex, instead of Raph vs Ninjara.
>>152066252https://youtu.be/zylpQuEcRa4?si=pG6sg7EpXVLpA4a-For me, it's Spin That Wheel where the turtles are fighting foot soldiers in a movie theater
>>152066037ah, so IDW splinter had some bullshit worthy of being beaten to a pulp by his sonsadly I have little trouble believing that
>>152066252funny thing, as this video points out, raph really is the de facto leader. he's the tactician.. which makes sense, he's Wolverine. and Wolverine is 120 years old. Even if Raph isn't, he's written as a guy with years of training, whereas Leo is more the teacher's pet who does what is de jure the right thing, ignoring pragmatismanyone watching this movie with no knowledge of TMNT, I could see them thinking thatbtw if you want to hear something amusing https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c0QC17gj_I0
>>152066441IDW Splinter is a terrible teacher and a terrible father. It was he who turned his kids into incompetent pacifist. When he take over of the Foot Clan, and even ordered the Jennika and others to kill his eneimes. Whether he was just trying to protect his kids, he was basically went against what he taught his kids.>>152066463I hate that modern writers always forget that Donnie is also a deadly fighter, not just a tech-dude.
>>152067235they need to play the games moredon's role is hitting at a distance, keeping everyone safe by controlling crowds, and carrying a duffel bag with their climbing gear etc
>>152067235I mean to be a tech-whiz in the 90's just meant you could use a computer. That shtick isn't going to last. "Hey Donnie can you log in and help pay my bills? Damn you're good."Taking Mikey's nunchaku away from him is way more egregious, I mean, were kids really buying nunchaku and whacking themselves over the head with it? I knew one kid, ONE KID who learned how to use the nunchaku and that was because of Bruce Lee, not Mikey.
>>152068106nunchaku were an early sign of a modern sickness: attacking one of the most benign aspects of something that you're worried about, because it's a much easier target than the parts that are actually potentially dangeroussee also: attacking drawings for having things in them that shouldn't happen in real life
>>152068106They figured that kids could tie two sticks together to make nunchucks, but not that they could make katanas or sai... Strange that there was no british panic over broomsticks. Either way, it's extremely retarded and the way Brits fear ninja stuff was just an early warning about what a pitiful, emasculated, gutless country they were becoming.
>>152068370>but not that they could make katanas or sai...How, pray tell, would you make a katana or a sai? Sneak into the iron smelting works while they are not looking and start folding your own iron?Nunchuks are just 2 sticks and some wire or chain, you could make some out of a keychain and two random pieces of wood you find in the park. Hate to say it but it was somewhat justified. The funnier thing is that everyone started buying pet turtles and then clogged the toilets when they got bored of them and flushed them down.
>>152068549My guy, if a kid has access to a sturdy stick, like say a baseball bat or a hockey stick or, since this is Britain, a Cricket bat, they've already got something capable of doing serious bodily harm. Nunchucks are actually a step down in lethality.
>>152068703in fact, nunchaku are significantly more likely to hurt you than someone else. you physically can't do any more damage than about 70% of what you could by striking with your fist, and that's if you're REALLY good at it. it's a force -limiter-, not enhancer. they were almost certainly mainly used to distract, to tangle up others' weapons, and to lock someone's arm into place while someone else stabs him.>>152068549It's.. kinda hard to get the ropes to stay on unless you have access to a drill, but yeah brits were retarded then and they're retarded now. you know australia is banning machetes. it's like they want to be constantly on fire>flushing a living thing because you're bored of itjesus fucking christ, nobody was THAT messed up, right?I mean my parents bought me four turtles from some kid and put them in a plain aquarium not knowing the fuckers need somewhere to land and breathe so they died, but that was ignorance, not malicious negligence.
>>152065958To be honest, even their enemies, like IDW Shredder is overrated, all of his success was due to his demigod fox waifu.
>>152069097He had some decent fights, and he wasn't a bumbling spaz like the 87 cartoon Shredder, but he was built up entirely too much with all the dragon stuff and the reincarnation, and tormenting the Hamatos across lifetimes... and then he just dies in a pretty mundane fight between him and Splinter 50 issues in.
