Not going to do a "was it good" thread, because it was.But how long did it STAY good? What was the point where it overstayed its welcome?
When the oni masks were introduced. So season 3 I think is where things started going downhill.
Tohru turning good wasn't a jumping-the-shark moment, but it boded ill. There just wasn't a whole lot for him to DO, but they kept him around even after shuffling to new villains.

>>152056272More or less my opinions. It never got old for me as a show as much as the pattern it was going for got old. Animals make sense, put their energies back into stones. The doors as a concept for me personally was cool enough to hold it own. The masks and artifacts is where I kinda got bored of them collecting things just for the sake of collecting things. I think talismans and the animal worked well because they use the powers from the last episodes to help them in the current one. Hell sometimes the villains "win" and get their own powers. I feel later on exclusively only the heroes won. Thinking on it I liked Xiaolin Showdown for the same reasons, past episodes mattered and the heroes did not always win. It wasn't a fight per episode (there generally is) but heroes/villains can be sneaky and get away more without causing direct conflict. I think Xiaolin did better than Jackie because it kept the characters to a min with sides that aren't directly good or evil. Hell at one point there was a villain who couldn't care less about the artifacts. With Jackie there was purely two sides, even side characters who in theory have their own goals can easily be lump to a side. Happy year of the horse by the way, my Chinese Zodiac. My only complaint about Jackie is the pig power was eye lasers which make little sense and felt too close to the dragon's power. I know it exist basically for a joke but personally I would make it so pig gave heighten senses. Hawk-like vision, pig-like smell, dog-like hearing, the works. It is the only real criticism I can give the show. Not a fan of the tiger's power but at least it made sense to me acting as the glue to keep the powers under control.
>>152056093I'd say it was good until they finish the demon arc at around episode 10 of season 2. Then there are a whole 20 episodes of FODDER that become unbearable quick until that season ends. Then season 3 tries to restart season 1. So season 1 is good, season 2 is good until it literally runs out of plot 1/3rd of the way, then it's unbearable. Then season 3 picks it back up, so if you don't mind a "we do the same thing again!" Then you could count season 3 as good. Otherwise the show stops being good 1/3rd of way into season 2. Which is a pity because there was so much they could have expanded on in season 2. Like the alternate reality episode where they gather a team to stop Shen Du, that's 2 episodes. Could've been 6 or more easily. There's also a time travel episode, and an episode when they revive one of the ancient heroes that imprisoned the demons. Could have instead make a whole season out of that, where they get stuck in the past and need to aid the original heroes in fulfilling their fates. Instead, nope, half an episode about that and the rest is FODDER.

I hate how the streaming releases look like garbage due to the botched deinterlacing and the DVD releases so far have also been shit. Latest from Millcreek had the worst video quality thus far.
