Let's talk about a classic.
Did they ever explain the origin of the mask?
>>152065234It's supposed to be ambiguous what it's true origin is Most just go with it's a manifestation of Loki
>>152065176I do wish that it gets a the maxxx style adaption
>>152065176comic was pretty good. never new it was that violent. with that said I also found it to be a little heavy on the dialog side whenever the mask was not around
>>152065176I used to have the TPB of the first series and read the Mask Returns from the library. A few years ago, I checked out the comics that came out after the movie and almost all of them mentioned "No, he isn't wearing a yellow zoot suit." It becomes very aware that Jim Carrey is bigger than the property. And of course, it was never as violent again.
Looking back, I think a lot of what Deadpool became was inspired by the original version of the Mask/Big Head.
Did they ever reveal Walter’s origin?
>>152066035I think he's just a psychopath who was lucky enough to be born with good genetics.
>>152065176I wish New Line went with their original idea of the mask being their Freddy replacement. You could literally just have a different guy each movie and not have to worry about resurrecting the killer each sequel
>>152066222That would’ve been cool.
>>152065234One of the series shows the mask being stolen from some tribe that used it in ceremonies.
The Mask comics are great when the characters are straight, dull and by the book, and everything is kind of boring and pale, except when Big Head appears and lights up everything.Comics after the movie fail to set up a real world in which the Mask is something unexpected. Everything is colorful and funny already, so when he appears it doesn't matter as much.
>>152066541That’s true. Besides Big Head the only other thing that felt vaguely comic booky was Walter, which was fine.
>>152065176thumbs up
back in high school i drew this. it has awful perspective because i wasn't thinking very hard about it back then but if i look past that it's alright
>>152068474You should redraw it
>>152068479He may not have improved that much in just one year.
>>152066222>You could literally just have a different guy each movie and not have to worry about resurrecting the killer each sequelGood idea. But how many slightly different versions of the same character can you make before it loses its charm?
>>152068474>it has awful perspective because i wasn't thinking very hard about it back then but if i look past that it's alrightThat can be easily fixed in 2 minutes in Paint.
>mfw this is the part where you boogie
>>152065939yeah I can see that
>>152065234Original comic heavily implies it to have been made by some tribe of natives.
Do you think Dark Horse should reboot the series? In my opinion, the original continuity was ruined after I Pledge Allegiance to the Mask. Also, which do you prefer: that each person be different when wearing the mask or that everyone become slightly different versions of Big Head?>>152066424>>152071102I've always liked that little scene. The fact that the natives had a ritual in which each person put on a mask, was beheaded, and took the mask off immediately afterward suggests to me that it was a way for them to demonstrate their willpower to the rest of the tribe. A normal person would be affected by the mask and seek revenge on those present.
>>152069574The way you should approach it is that every Mask has a different host personality which leads to different tonesComic Stanley had a big chip on his shoulder and anger issues, so his Mask was a horror story about a guy getting way too much power living out his revenge fantasies.Kellaway was a decent cop who wanted to help so his Mask was more heroic. The teenagers who got the Mask were more misguided. You use this as a springboard to make different types of stories. The big issue with Son of the Mask is, despite being a different character, he just acts like Jim Carrey's and is basically treated as the same guy and same Mask. When part of the point was movie Stanley Ipkiss was different because of his specific personality. So it's just in the shadow of one of Carrey's most notable roles. Even the comics lost that since as time went on Big Head became more generic to the point where the host stopped mattering. The Joker crossover is a good example, the host is just some random criminal and yet he acts like the Jim Carrey movie version.
>>152065234No
>>152066541Agreed. The movie ruined the comic.
>>152070037I must admit that Loki and Odin's parenting problems were amusing.
>>152071244>everyone become slightly different versions of Big Headthis is the preferable choice
>>152068474It's a fun drawing, definitely has personality
Is it done for good? I Pledge Allegiance kinda felt like the writers saying "fuck it, we're done".
>>152065176They should make a movie based on the original version of the comics.
>>152074534That was the plan until Jim Carrey signed on.
>>152074534I won't deny it; reading the original comic, Masque, felt more like a chore than fun. I thought it was funny that the writer even appeared at the end of the story apologizing for its flaws. The art is pretty good, though. In fact, if they ever decide to depict the spirit that inhabits the mask, I hope they reuse the design from that comic.
>>152074534Ah! A alien!
>>152071102And contained the Norse god Loki.
>>152076162That was movie crap. The original mask was African in origin.
Some fans tried to create a more faithful adaptation of the comic.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y2xJMlYrYeUhttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XdVQGGvhm_4Neither of these videos is perfect, but they have some cool scenes.
>>152065176Look at the CHOMPERS on this guy
>>152076316He's up to no good...
>>152068474I would literally kill to have your line work ability, anon
>>152074540Masque is different from The Mask that was originally done by John Arcudi and Doug Mahnke. Masque was a sort of proto-Mask, Mike Richardson’s first attempt to get his idea off the ground. It’s apparently a bit of a convoluted mess and Richardson just threw it all out and started over with Arcudi and Mahnke
>>152079604Maybe they could reuse the name Masque for the Arcudi/Mahnke version to separate it from the Jim Carey movie. Or they could just call the comic “Big Head.”
>>152079694Now that you mention it, I must admit that finding information about The Mask on the internet is a real headache. The title is too generic. "Big Head" is a little better in that regard.
>>152079776Yeah, I agree. If everyone calls the mask wearer Big Head then they should just go with that. You could even change the color for the face a bit, maybe a different shade of green, to really differentiate the comic version from the movie version.
