Today marks 15 years since Bob's Burgers debuted on FOX, and is still going strong.

What is /co/'s thoughts on this show after all these years? Is it still good?
>>
It stopped being good when it stopped focusing on Bob's Burgers, so pretty early on.
>>
>>152066429
It's okay. It definitely fell off in terms of quality, but its worst crime is being too tame. Its perfectly watchable, just not terribly exciting.

I really don't have much more to say about it.
>>
>>152066429
dont watch the movie or anything past the 12th season
unless you think it's okay to recast people based on their race or because they sat in a lawn chair somewhere and got called an insurgent for it.

Singlehandely saved FOX from Seth MacFarlane takeover.

I’m on season 15, so not fully caught up. You stay for the Belchers at a certain point honestly (they carry the show well enough). The comedy is very dull now. The first 3 seasons are gold.
>>
For me it's Louise feet.
>>
It can never be as good as those first few seasons but season 16 has had a lot of decent episodes.
>>
>>152066439
It was never about Bob's Burgers in the first place.
>>
It outlived Futurama
>>
>>152066429
>and is still going strong
That's debatable.
>>
>>152066429
Bob's burgers was a victim of the mid to late 2010's where a tiny school of thought was trying to convince everyone that non-conflict narratives was elevated storytelling.
>>
>>152066439
>>152066779
Burger wars from season 1 was the last time anyone ever gave a thought about the restuarant.
>>
>>152066429
stopped wathing it a few years ago, around the movie coming out. Which I liked. But the show became about all the characters being punished for their imperfections. Especially louise. Every louise episode became about shaming her. Most of the other character's episodes for a time, despite not being about louise, included a shit on louise segment.
>>
>>152067008
ugh yes tell me about it.
A bunch of women with therapy certificates became TV writers for some reason. They're embedding "Therapy" (capital T therapy, it's a specific school of thought [secular religion]) into everything. Bob's burgers got hit HARD with it. Like RnM did.

Too many Bob's Burgers fans view it as a comfort show, they don't want to talk about how lame it's been since like Season 5, when it made the transition to a family show.
Still leagues better than modern Simpsons and Family Guy though

And the funny thing is they could've even made it work if they weren't so focused on making her someone Louise looks up to.

Bob's Burgers is like a c time capsule of the cartoon bridge between George Bush 2nd administration Family Guy and Obama's 2nd administration Bojack Horseman.

That recent episode about the cooking trophy heist was pretty decent because it was about cooking.

Way too many episodes have the A story about the kids at Wagstaff doing something stupid (cheese fight, illegal hustle, some gossip thing.) And then the B plot of Bob, Linda, and Teddy just hanging out at the restaurant.

The show needs some new ideas and episode formulas. Because Wagstaff school just isn't appealing.
>>
>>152067848
>Because Wagstaff school just isn't appealing.
You kidding? No one, including you, actually cares about the restuarant, it's all about the kids and their friends at Wagstaff.
>>
I've seen some new episodes, does Bob ever get loud and yell/scream ever anymore or is H Jon Benjamin just stuck in monotone voice for eternity now
>>
>>152068448
Last episode did!
>>
>>152068547
Feels like it's been missing a lot for a while though, right? I go back to the earlier seasons and it's definitely there much more. I like that bit of unhinged-ness for Bob.
>>
>>152066429
I haven’t watched in a few years, I don’t hate it or anything but I just kinda hit a point that it stopped appealing to me. I saw the movie and enjoyed it enough but I just haven’t had the urge to see what I’m missing anymore. They ever replace pestos voice actor? I always found it shitty that they fired him
>>
>>152068953
it was fun.
>>
>>
>>152066429
seasons 2-5 (maybe 6 or 7) have peaked
>>
>>152070755
The cutoff season for expecting more good episodes than mediocre ones is season 10.
>>
>>152067008
Though something I noticed is that even in the earlier seasons the show was bad at getting the Belchers out of their conflicts as they usually just fizzle out.

Are you kidding? Snackface and the cheese-throwing one were incredibly fun. I understand being frustrated with how often Bob himself is sidelined in favor of the kids' school adventures, but that's just the result of the writers not developing a cast of adult pals he can interact with as often as something reliable like classmates in a school setting.

What I've come to realize is that past a certain point, Bob's Burgers admittedly started having lamer jokes and quips, but the show's strengths still lie in its espionage or mystery thrillers, many of which involving the kids. The movie is the greatest example of this; wasn't the funniest thing ever, but I found the murder mystery and how it all unfolded to be very inspired and very engaging.

>but that's just the result of the writers not developing a cast of adult pals he can interact with as often as something reliable like classmates in a school setting.
Sadly I bet the showrunners figured that Bob's Burgers is a unsuccessful restaurant was paramount.

The "hey, isn't it a little... problematic when Bob and Linda leave Tina and Louise alone with Teddy," female pallet-swap.

I demand somebody describe to me how any scene written for Nat does not play exactly as it did, if you swapped her for Teddy.

I don't think Nat is like Teddy which actually is the problem with Nat, this super helpful and super accommodating superlesbian who can do anything to help the kids because she is just so awesome and quirky doesn't fit in and is just there to be a super positive example of a gay "character".
>>
>>152066429

This show is highly satanic because the main characters are of lesser races
>>
>>152071043
That's something I've always liked about The Belchers is how they're clearly off-whites, white passing ethnicities that used to be seen as an ethnicity.
I go even a little crazy and assume a maximalist position, where The Belchers are mixed race out of the wazoo and assume even a métis ancestry.

>This show is highly satanic because the main characters are of lesser races
>>
>>152071128
>why Métis
>the name Belcher so at least one of Bob's parents hails from some French or French-Canadian lineage. But in a perfect world, we'd have the show about a sort of Greek-Armenian-Italian-Jewish-German polyglot."
>>152071195
>it's Italian-American discrimination
A proud Italian-American tradition!
>>
>>152071354
"Greek-Armenian-Italian-Jewish-German"
but Bob has already said he doesn't have any Mediterranean ancestry, so that rules out Greek and Italian for Bob leaving Armenian-Jewish-German.
Now, neither Bob or Bob Jr show no familiarity with Judaism so that leaves Bob's mother, Alice whose maternal name was Lombard.
So Bob is Mètis/Armenian on his dad side and Ashkenazi Jewish on his mom side.
>>
>>152071538
Now we got Bob's ancestry figured out which means we got italian-Greek for Linda left and it's pretty obvious she's Italian-american but where does the greek come in?
Well Linda's maternal name of Genarro might tells us that her dad's family probably came from Naples while Gloria's maternal name of Rinaldi does the same...but Gloria's Mom, Linda's nonna, Claudia's maternal name of Volpintesta points to the Calabria region in Italy which has close cultural contact with Greece.

That was their strategy for the later seasons, just be background noise.

When they could get away with this kind of thing.
From the one character who, mostly, refused to wear anything in her mary janes.
>>
>>152072772
Now something like this would be an entire episode about Louise wanting to write a funny joke burger with Gene and Louise acting really nervous about it and it ends with Louise feeling bad than not even doing it.
>>
i watch it and rewatch it often as a comfort show but it is undeniable that the show lost its bite early on.
>>
>>152067848
>>152068407
>>152070919
Really the problem is the fact they keep up such an arbitrary barrier between Wagstaff and the school. If the restuarant is so close enough that the kids can walk to school every morning then the school and the restuarant exist in a greater environment - the neighborhood at larger - then separate environments.
>>
>>152072984
And that means the staff of the school could get a bite to eat at the restaurant.
This could cause the kids, especially Louse, "some" stress.
>>
I dropped it after a couple of seasons. I got really annoyed with how Bob is the only sane person in this show yet nobody listens to him and magically, the insane ideas of the people around him turn out to be the correct ones. Fuck that.
