Name a comic that has aged worse.
Protip: you can't.
>>
>>152068210
So is this just about angry nerds? I know that fujos are into it and I’ve seen one of the characters going off about woman. But other than that I don’t really give a shit outside of the fact it’s the inspiration for DasherU.
>>
>>152068210
The entire current Ultimates line
>>
>>152068210
I'm pretty sure you mean aged better, otherwise we'd all be writing out a list of basically 95% of comics.

Evan Dorkin is a tool & a quisling.

eltingville is mid but it was never really wrong

It’s like someone wrote a comic where the voices in their head are different characters.

Its a time capsule of the worst aspects of Old Nerddom (Post-Star Wars, Pre-MCU nerd consumer culture) made by a guy who was there boots on the ground, and was both guilty of doing that shit and on the receiving end of it as a professional.
In that archival sense its serves a useful purpose.
>>
Evan Dorkin really didn't take gamergate well huh.
>>
>>152068785
This, it only aged poorly because nerd culture has somehow become even worse over time.

This shit reads like incel revenge fiction, Jen is a complete jerk-ass with little to no redeeming qualities. After reading this I never what to invest in a female character ever again.

He told his hoard of underage fan girls on Bluesky that he’s working on more Eltingville.
>>
It aged bad in the sense that it was actual nerds being toxic shitheads as opposed to dumb grifters with youtube channels

The main cast are a bunch of egotistical, inerrable, and obsessive nerds who build their lives around pedantic trivia and collectables while hating each other and all only really hanging out because nobody else can stand them.
In that they act out exaggerated versions of events that the creator both lived through and did, such as dealing with scummy comic store owners, destroying products to get the collectable cards that came with them, harassing others for getting trivia about nerd stuff wrong, shitting on the movies of the day, the 2000s zombie craze and dealing with parental intervention in an era before becoming a nerd became acceptable.
Alongside just a general analogue way on interacting with the hobby in the early parts before the sliding timescale really kicks in.

>They sound like cancer
Exactly the point, Dorkin was once of these guys growing up and while he grew out of most of it he also joined the comics industry and then saw the same type of guy he was sending in death threats over a character getting killed, driving him to make an avatar of everything he thought was wrong in the community.
>What happens then?
Not much, most of the comics were released between 94 and 2002, so while the references change the general shape of things doesn't. Then you get the final issues in 2014 and 2015 but its mostly fine because the modern day aspects are kind of glossed over and then there is a time skip to the modern Post-Avengers era for the last part so the sliding timescale caught up.

I love this shit. Really wish it had more. Same with KC Greens "Anime Club". I don't know why I like it so much. When I was a geek in middle school and high school, I played Dungeons and Dragons, liked Anime and Cartoons, friends and I did a NERO LARP for a little while, and we liked dorky shit, but I also played football, had a job and a girlfriend, and was all around kind of a normie. So I don't know why I like this kind of stuff so much.
>>
>>152069164
In comparison to what we face in the modern day its quaint and nostalgic.
>>
>>152069193
I think thats why I like it a lot. Because you're right. It's old school geek culture when it was a niche hobby that mainly dorks and weird people got into back in the day.
>>
>>152068210
They were the good guys and Dorkin is a salty faggot.
>>
>>152068799
It got worse because these guys failed to gatekeep woke niggers.
>>
>>152069237
That's what it should be. Everyone else is a poser.
>>

Oh no, quite the opposite. He basically creamed his pants because he felt so vindicated at "toxic nerd culture" getting called out the way it did.
>>
>>152069164
>Same with KC Greens "Anime Club"
KC Green did it better because even though the Anime Club guys were kind of shitheads, they also had their positive moments and you could see why they were friends. I get what Dorkin was going for, and there are some pretty funny moments in Eltingville, but sometimes you need a little sugar to counteract the spice when you read stories like these.
>>
>>152068210
>has aged worse.
Nigga you're on 4chan. Bill is literally a /v/irgin
>>
>>152069164
Now that you mentioned Anime Club, they announced on twitter that this is having a animated series adaptation. Anyone here has any recent news about it? I'am Excited.
>>
>>152070974
Anime Club just doesn't feel authentic.
Eltingville is gritty and unapologetically vulgar but sincere, it appeals to me. It's a comic about horrible people (mostly), that's rare.
>>
>>152071205
Dunno, the smotheringly cloy and saccharine nature of the ultra cringe anime club at the school and the screaming match at Mort's over Cardcaptor Sakura leading to a table being flipped were pretty damn authentic to the time. Though this was in the exact time frame when anime was starting to reach the mainstream but hadn't yet exploded and become something normies were casually aware of, back when stuff like Girugamesh was still a meme.
>>
>>152070974
>KC Green did it better
No

>>

weird...
>>
>>152070974
>KC Green did it better because even though the Anime Club guys were kind of shitheads, they also had their positive moments and you could see why they were friends.
This is only if you're a loser who doesn't post ironically agree with the "bad guys" in media. I loved Bill and Josh the most. They're based as fuck. Bill especially. His speech at the end against women was like that Red Skull speech in the 2015 Cap run where it's meant to be bad but anyone smart knows the author unknowingly just wrote out straight facts.
Anime Club is fun but it's missing the distinct sincere bitter nerd hatred that EC actually has even if it's all it has.
>>
>>152068971
It's selection bias the comic. He was part of that sort of scene and seems to think it was universal and while those guys were out there, they were a minority even then. Most people just bought their books and gtfo of the comic store.
>>
>>152068210
The fact you posted this thread proves how timeless it is.
>>
>>152068210
The thing about Eltingville is thst it's very much a product of the same culture it's commenting on and yet as time has gone on it's become clear it very much doesn't want to be. Whatever self awareness it had was stripped away and it now feels just as angry and petty as the caricatures its meant to be lampooning.
>>
>>152070930
Given that goobergate was 98% redditors bitching about minorities, can you blame him? Hell, they got what they wanted - any games journalist has to admit if a game they're covering was made by somebody they're chums with now, so why are the incels still crying?
>>
>>152071205
>Anime Club just doesn't feel authentic.
To me it felt very authentic to KC Green's own social group which of course would be slightly different than Dorkin's.
>>
>>152073078
Because Dykes and Fags still seethe that they have to serve the majority.
>>
>>152068210
Thats because these were actually fans and not grifters trying to change the source material. I will take a millions of these guys over an average Fan discord filled with trannies and other retards.
>>
>>152073665
Is Dorkin's comic pretty much just him seething about a friend group he didnt't like a few decades ago?

At some point you have to wonder if Dorkin might be the problem, considering he's the common factor in these stories.

Something tells me this guy is no better than the "snobs" he be-cries.

I'm glad there are still people around here who are willing to at least entertain the idea that maybe Dorkin is just as much of an asshole as the people he based the Eltingville club on. /co/ sucks off him and this comic constantly, and any time someone criticizes it or Dorkin they're met with snotty accusations that "they're just mad because the comic called them out".
>>
>>152074715
Well it's not that hard to see. When it comes down to it, all he is doing is getting mad and belittling people who are more passionate about a topic than him. Kafka traps aside, it's not hard to see the point of gatekeeping.
>>
>>152074646
>A woman writer is dealing with comic geeks nitpicking her work? I need to save her! She can't defend her own stories, she needs me to step in!
Also what the fuck is he talking about, comics fans have always bitched about continuity.
>>
>>152068350
I know it's a hindsight thing, but does Supes look incredibly distrustful of Fogel?
>half smile (if you can even call it that)
>one eyebrow raised
>back arching to where it's almost like his upper half is leaning away from him
>>
>>152068223
Basically proto-chuds - unlovable and insufferable - who camped a comicbook store before the internet became mainstream
>>
>>152075107
Thanks for being a sacrificial troon.
>>
>>152075119
The irony here is that many of insufferable fags also became troons. Why do you think comics and speedrunning communities are filled with them?
>>
>>152074715
>I'm glad there are still people around here who are willing to at least entertain the idea that maybe Dorkin is just as much of an asshole as the people he based the Eltingville club on
I'm genuinely surprised that there are people who DON'T think that, if only because the level of raw vitriol aimed at comic book fans and geekdom in that comic book is not something you get from being an outside observer, it's something that has to still be inside you to properly reflect onto the pages that well. It's like Welcome to the NHK and how hard it goes in-depth into the sheer unrelenting mental disassociation and levels of self-disgust that come from being a hardcore otaku, you don't get something that raw without having lived it yourself. I'm definitely not one of those guys who are like "Anyone who writes about toxic nerds is a toxic nerd themselves" or whatever, but it's impossible to display the sheer bitterness and delusion inside the truly toxic and hardcore if you haven't gone to that level at least once in your lifetime, and Dorkin definitely has.

Though whether or not he's changed since is not something I'm going to judge since I don't know the guy personally. All I'm saying is that "This club is bitch-free" speech absolutely came from the heart on some level, no matter what Dorkin might say otherwise.
>>
>>152068210
Hit too close to home?
>>
>>152074715
>>152074768
>>152075604
Dorkin is definitely was and is that kind of guy, Bill in form and Josh in deed are both just Dorkin exaggerating his own past.
The difference is while both of the characters grew up to be single slobs, Dorkin got basically directed by his much more aggressive feminist wife, into tempering and redirecting that anger away from nerd shit, but from what I have heard that anger never really went away.
>>
>>152076339
>aggressive feminist wife
JUST
>>
>>152068210
FUCK YOU. You're upset this amazing comic doesn't have slurs arent you?
Maybe you're an incel bitter that eltingville club is enjoyed by woman?
Fuck off and leave fans of this amazing comic alone bitch.
>>
>>152076339
So he got Longhoused and acts proud of it?
Lmfao what a fucking cuck.
>>
>>152072710
Bill is 100% right but still comes off unambiguously as a colossal faggot. This is the main flaw of Eltingville, it's not really about nerds so much as it is about losers who happen to be nerds.
AC is more simplistic but does a decent job of demonstrating how fandom autism brings out the worst in annoying but still redeemable guys. It was a much better choice for an animated series imo.
