Read it for the first time. Easily the best batman comic I read so far, the art is great and it's theme is somewhat interesting (and it's obvious that the joker is wrong and just coping about being a psycho) and the ambiguous ending is cool. If it wasnt for joker fatigue /co/ would not hate on this so much.
>>152082320Did you read the one with the "modern" colors or the original?
>>152082320I liked the part where Bruce had sex with Barbara.
>>152082320Bolland is still super talented.
>>152083038Guessing left is the original? Been years since I read it. Why the fuck did they change it?
>>152083803That's the movie
>>152082320Thanks for the blog
>>152083038/co/ version is the best one
>ambiguous ending It wasn't supposed to be. Bolland got carried away with the silhouettes.>>152083876Because Bolland never liked the colors and wanted to do it himself. Good pencillers aren't necessarily good colorists.
>>152083876The official narrative is Bolland disliked Higgins coloring, saying something like it was too silly for the serious tone he visually intended or something. There may be something to that, I haven't had the masochism to inquire into the tastes of the plebeians these days but I recall hearing people whine about a lack of gritty realism in their fictional media before, so maybe some people actually like brown and grey lifeless garbage.Still, years ago an anon, possibly with inside knowledge, clued on to the likelihood that a lot of cheap digital recolors were actually happening because it meant the companies could cut out paying a prior collaborator for future reprints, namely Bolland, with the recolors being jarringly different so said collaborator couldn't sue.
>>152085742That one's shit.
>>152083876Because the colorist fucked up.
>>152086140It's really just the first answer, Bolland has talked about it fairly extensively. If you see any of his art that he colored himself digitally since the 90's, it's all very similar color palettes. He's always gravitated to more muted colors, but since digital gives you more range to be muted than old Doc Martin dyes. Higgins was the Watchmen colorist as well so he's still getting royalties for that, if DC still gives royalties to colorists.
>>152086938Watchmen did get recolored for the Absolute Edition (and it has become the main version ever since) but Higgins himself did the job and stuck fairly close to the original, as opposed to other recolors (Killing Joke, Sandman, Flex Mentallo, Swamp Thing, etc) that went all "fuck these gaudy colors, make everything silver and damp"
