That's why the show felt so directionless for a long time amd why certain storylines that had been set up ended abruptly in anticlimactic ways.Eventually Muto and company decided to make it canon because it was popular on Tumblr and Twitter back when those things were still relevant and they pretty much squandered every potential storyline they'd set up years before, Finn's parents, the lich, Susan, the comet. Bubbline Golb, Simone and Betty was literally the only major subplots they had left to resolve and they decided to resolve it all in one rushed episode. And for anyone thinking Pendleton Ward's original vision would have stayed in tact if he stayed on it wouldn't have. Ward is an even bigger pussy than Muto and he probably would have caved to the shippers even earlier. He left the show because he couldn't handle the pressure of being in charge of people and telling them what to do.

Every single univers in AT, with 1 exception, is a result of someone making a wish to prismo and him creating a new universe to fulfill that wish. Farmworld for example was a result of Finn wishing that the Lich never came into existence. So basically there aren't an infinite number of possible universes AT there are just the ones people made a wish for and all of them are the same basic world with one big difference because of a wish.The one exception is Fionna world which wasn't born from a wish like all the other universe but a result of Prismo making an illegal fanfic world because he was bored. He didn't even actually intend to make a genderbent universe he just wanted to make an original world but ended ul copy Finn and Jake because he's a hack.Theoretically there could be a universe where Finn made a wish to end up with PB kr for her to never age
