What Blanche's mother does to her in the end is basically the same thing. It feels like the message was that Blanche lost her initial idealism and loyalty to her friends and it came back to bite her. She didn't become a literal whore but in a way, she did. Still a fuck of a place to leave Blanche's story without any real resolution for her though. And there'll never be one now, RIP Hubert.
