They always think "anime style" instead of the manga those anime are built on.You look at any manga vs its anime adaptation and the manga is much more expressive with a lot more shading or zoom ins or what have you.This is why "western anime" fucks up so much, because usually the anime are simplified version of whatever mangas artstyle and there are a ton of series where you wonder how they got so popular until you see the true glory of the original mangas style.Especially pre-2010s. The developing tech and western boom in popularity caused certain budgets to increase dramatically and allowed for stuff like JJBA to be more faithfully adapted. Albeit with a heavily overworked and underpaid staff.It's why they're remaking a lot of those classic 80s anime now. Because they can finally be what they were on the page.
