Is it possible to make a non-terrible event comic?
>>152100036No
Annihilation bitch
Yeah.
>>152100075Non-terrible, though.>>152100087How?
i think lower stakes one like forever evil are pretty decent usually
>>152100095>thoughThere it is.
>>152100036Infinite crisis was great, final crisis was good.
>>152100316No
>>152100036>it's another "OP doesn't realize 4chan isn't YouTube and engagement won't actually get him any money" episode
>>152100881Concession accepted.
>>152100036It is, but not with our current methods.
>>152100036It depends>what do you want out of an event comic>what is it you currently don't like with event comics>what is an event you do like, and what was it that made it great (in your opinion)etc.
I suppose. They require a bit more planning and thought though. Usually the problem is that some editor or big shot drops an idea on everyone's laps that they now have to drop what they're doing and dance around. Blackest Night was a big climax to what Johns was doing on GL. It also helps if your event doesn't really get in the way of someone else's stuff. >>152100075Annihilation was off it's own sector of space so it could focus and was cool. But yeah, the problem with events was always just how in the way they got really.
>>152100036define event comic
>>152102267Big loud story that involved multiple crossover titles and tie in books.
>>152100036An event comic should be the end of an entire shared universe. It should be the biggest and best comic in that shared universe. That's not gonna happen.
>>152100036I liked Infinite Crisis. It was DC playing to its strengths, using its deep character rosters and embracing old continuity. And instead of doubling down on Batman and Superman, they pushed the hell out of minis designed to create new teams and books in neglected areas of the DCU. Without OMAC and Villains United and Day of Vengeance we wouldn't have gotten Checkmate and Secret Six and Shadowpact. The only failed book was Rann/Thanagar War.
>>152100075>>152100316>>152104306>Annihilation>Infinite Crisis>Final CrisisI didn't like these (or any other event comic I've read) because they were samey storylines with the same crappy art as any other comic. They didn't do anything to make them truly special. There's a lot of fighting, but it all sucks.
>>152100036Yes.
Crisis on Infinite Earths was great.Infinite Crisis is good if you have not recently read COIE. Johns' strength is individual pages/moments that are epic but when you look at them in broader context you realize they are stupid.Johns' GL Rebirth stuff was solid and the events related to it (Sinestro Corps War and Blackest Night) were enjoyable Hollywood blockbuster style things. On the Marvel side I haven't read as much but I enjoyed Civil War (1). It wasn't fantastic but it had some fun moments. I've not read anything related to Infinity Quest/Gauntlet or Secret Wars but I heard they were good too.
>>152100036Sinestro Corps War was great. Had everything you wanted from a big event.IC just needs a few tweaks and tone down the assholery between Batman and Superman.
>>152105613>Civil WarIt was a great event. Problem is characters fags don't like that their heroes are presented as flawed figures.
>>152105918Personally I disliked how it shit on Alexander Luthor and, to a lesser extent, Superboy.Alex's origin in COIE was a really nice homage to the original Superman origin and his willingness to make such a huge sacrifice made him a true hero. Sort of like Maxwell Lord being an asshole villain shits all over JLI, I don't care for the character assassination that happened in IC.>>152105947Civil War (the mainline series) had a decent average level of quality with some really standout moments and a few really stupid moments. The tie-ins ranged from great to retarded though.
>>152100036Crisis on Infinite Earths was okay. You can tell they actually cared about it back then for more than just money. I was surprised when I first read it. The original Thanos too. Everything else is ass though
>>152100075B A S E D
>>152105947Civil War was so retarded the concept was treated as a joke in the 80s
>>152106035I liked Civil War
>>152106035>>152106051on paper, it's a good ideain execution, it's a messthe movie was better
>>152100036In general i think DC has better events than Marvel.
>>152106073dc pretending the lantern corps is relevant was funny
