I've been rewatching dexter and honestly felt like he was more of a asshole so he deserved some of his abuse. After rewatching Dexter is a pretty chill kid and just has a lot of people that use or abuse him. Dexter also has a lot of mean spirited scenes towards him in later seasons.

They even get rid of his friends just so he's more of a loner and loser.
