She was a horror movie type of character....but living in the Archie world and having typical teen adventures for about 4 years. Then she became a typical Archie character with magic powers. And that 4 years was in a very rarely appearing mini in a side book. Sabrina only sometimes appeared in it.

That was around the time when Hollywood was really into shitting on Abrahamic religions and propping up science, Atheism, and Satanism. Shit like The VVitch was still prevalent in the public conscious. Sabrina was already horror adjacent, so it was a no-brainer to lean her back into her horror routes and make a Satanist witch show.
