Why did we not return to gruesomeness in comics after the CCA was totally ignored?
We did.A lot of it sucked.
>>1521051281. Marvel and DC now had franchises to take care of so anything that's excessively gruesome would just get relegated to a Mature Readers book or something2. There were people in the Big 2 gunshy about it because they didn't want another situation like the 1950s where parental groups and shit came down on the industry again3. Indies did do gruesome in the comics depending on the title, you just don't read them because either those books are out of print and people aren't talking about them, or you think Marvel and DC were the only companies in the 80s
>>152105195That's not even close to the one in the OP. That shit looks comically bad.
>>152106049You asked for gruesome. Crossed is about the most gruesome modern thing you're gonna find.Frankly old EC wasn't even that gruesome by modern standards it's hard to pull off the level of detail needed for that with 50s printing.
>>152105128Max Brödel founded the Association of Medical Illustrators in 1945, and the textbook industry has poached our young guro talent ever since
>>152105241The problem with the indie stuff is most of those guys can't draw. It's either Johnny Ryan types or this >>152105195>>152106179Interesting point.
>>152106106>Crossed is about the most gruesome modern thing you're gonna find.In the west, maybe.
>>152105128Lol I dunno
