SPOILERS Judy dies here. It's the only thing that makes it all make sense. Her being so careless with Nick, the carrot recorder breaking like it does, everything working out so well but awkwardly, the feather falling next to the fixed recorder etc. You see at the start how committed he can be at pretending but he's used to doing it to trick other people not trick himself so that's why it comes out so sloppy. It's possible she dies before this in that really bad crash into the statue.
By that token what if we're all actually dead in real life already, because none of this shit makes coherent sense and nothing really matters and everything is fucking terrible.

But for the movie her dying in the water tunnel makes sense because the beaver warned them they would run out of air and Judy was trying even harder than normal to prove herself and earn back their reputation.

She replays the day in her head, saving Mr. Big's spoiled princess and arresting Weaselton. She also dreamt up a version of Nick that'd become more than a friend to her. Judy saving Zootopia from animal racism also was part of her coma dream, none of that happened.Zootopia is locked in a seemingly eternal state of civil unrest. Judy has yet to come out of her coma. Nick is serving time in the Zootopia Prison System. Bellwether never sets out to takeover Zootopia because she was never actually evil, Judy just casted her as a bitch in her dream for some fucked up reason.
