Yeah, he is awful. He is a glowie and probably a war criminal. And what he has done to many characters and is currently doing to wonder woman is horrible. But i'm still curious, has this man been able to produce at least one (1[uno]) good comic? Some say The Visions is still passable because it came first before his formula got stale, others also praise his Mister Miracle, but i disagree hard on that one. What do you anons think is his best work?
>>152111720>has this man been able to produce at least one (1[uno]) good comic? No.
>>152111720Nothing he has written is good. Nothing. Only a shill will say otherwise, and if you don’t believe the CIA psyop writer who’s god awful supergirl mini is being adapted by the second biggest movie studio in America has shills - both corporate and governmental - pushing his shit youre delusional. Supergirl, Batman, visions, omega men, Grayson (seeley sucks too), danger street, mister miracle, Wonder Woman, strange adventures, swamp thing winter special, all of it is fucking atrocious. Fuck you for even making this thread.
Has anybody read A Once Crowded Sky? I remember the GoodReads reviews being hilariously scathing
>>152111824Why would I subject myself to that? It was a piece of shit he pushed out so that his cover story of being a “writer” would be solid enough for them to hire him without it being too suspicious. Half of the people writing comics now had zero worthwhile work under their belt before getting big 2 jobs - which at one point were the big leagues you graduated into rather than getting because of a familial connection.See kelly Thompson and Stephanie Phillips for similar stories of having nothing notable to their name and suddenly getting big 2 work.
>>152111986Kelly Thompson writes great stuff, I can smell this post
>>152111720Vision was such limp garbage, I can't respect anyone that likes it.
>>152111986My favorite origin story is James Tynion IV>just happens to run into Scott Snyder>immediately gets to write Batman>never learns how to write a good comic
everyone glazed his shit till batman and heroes in crisis made CIA MAN BAD a meme
Tom King was like Bendis in that his first comics he was a fresh new voice but then it quickly became apparent that he only ever had that one voice and it quickly became irritating. People could enjoy his Omega Men and Vision if they knew absolutely nothing about those characters that they didn't gleam from wiki articles. With a greater than casual amount of knowledge, you realize the guy's a big phony.
>>152111720I've never enjoyed anything I've read by him.I jumped into The Vision back when /co/ loved it and came away very disappointed. I was baffled. This was when I realized /co/ as a collective had shit taste in general. Some time after, some anon told me The Vision was better than Watchmen with all honesty, after I mentioned how it just mimicked some things Watchmen did, but not as well. I think I've argued with Mister (the storytimer) over it too.Ever since, I've tried his other acclaimed works. The only ones I haven't are The Sheriff of Babylon, Up in the Sky, and his Green Lantern comic, but not exactly in a hurry to check those out. I've seen pages of Up in the Sky, and it looks just as bad as anything else he's done.
I almost want to say Up in the Sky was OKAY but it really was just him trying very hard to be Grant Morrison and not succeeding.
>>152112124>t. One of the Warner shills focused on pushing absolute
>>152112606No the fuck it was not. It’s genuinely one of his worst and it bares zero resemblance to grant’s writing. It’s him trying to be Denny O’Neil if anything, and failing hard.
>>152111720I read Vision and enjoyed it when I was significantly more retarded years ago.But then I read Omega Men soon after that and I thought it was lame. Then I read Mister Miracle and oh boy I was not having it
>>152113082Have you reread Vision since? Same question open to anyone who remembers not hating it when it came out, I wonder if his later writing got worse or if the flaws were always there.
>>152113141It's a story about a morally dubious PTSD-afflicted hero who gets dominated by his amoral wife, same Tom King story as ever.I liked it when I first read it, but I eventually started paying attention to the holes. It didn't make sense for Viv to hide her killing of Grim Reaper, it was in defense of her family. She was legally and morally in the clear until she hid the body. Apparently that's because Vision used "crazy" Wanda as her mental template which is also stupid.
Seriously why is a former CIA 'recruiter' writing funnybooks?
>>152111720He really wants to be Alan Moore but Moore could write Swamp Thing, From Hell, and Tom Strong, whereas I haven’t read a Tom King comic that isn’t “I get sad sometimes :(“
>>152112395I was criticizing his writing on Vision in the storytime threads up until issue 8 or so when I lost interest but shills were drowning out actual meaningful discussion.
>>152111720>>152113354You know this site is run by glowies right? We know because of the hack last year and all the .gov email addresses that got leaked.
>>152113328When she killed that guy is when really cemented that he's just a shitty writer hiding behind "mischaracterization the fact that he's just a bad writer, the entire set up with the guy threatening the robot in his own house while his son was home just weeks of writing nonsensical shit to set up a big shock moment.
>>152111720Batman/ElmerFudd
>>152113354He wrote a book about superheroes that did well, so he got hired by DC
>>152113354Not defending king but then you'd complain about people not having experience about life beyond comic books.
>>152114157You'd think an experienced villain would be put on books explicitly about villains.Maybe that's the problem, he can't get heroes right anyway.
>>152114514>King writes a Lex Luthor miniseries>"Tom, this is great work! But do we really need this much detail on Iran's current military capabilities and chain of command? I'm not sure the reader needs a map to the defense minister's house."
>>152111720His popularity baffled me until it was revealed he was just another nepo-baby (Mom was an exec at WB in the 90's). His Vision series was just a Vertigo comic wearing Marvel Underoos. Mister Miracle was just a mystery box plot. Adam Strange was contemptuous crap. His Batman run was only lauded by online critics and casuals and I think did the most damage that's ever happened to the character. King's Batman wasn't deconstruction, it was sheer destruction, and kept telling the readers "Batman is a rich idiot and you should feel bad for being a fan." which got applause from the Twitterati and no one else. Bob Harras was right to separate King's run into a new title because he saw the long term damage he was doing but it was arguably too late. And let's not forget what this fucker did to Jae Lee. And yet he sits on Gunn's team of creatives and supposedly he's been groomed to be the new DC publisher when Jim Lee finally quits.
>>152114923>let's not forget what this fucker did to Jae LeePlease do tell
>>152115194Jae Lee did a variant cover for King's Watchmen continuation. King had heard but did not confirm that Lee as pro-comicsgate and immediately began bashing him on social media and being pissy that DC did not consult him on artist selection. Lee was not CG, not on Twitter and while he and his wife were mourning the death of a pet his phone began to blow up. Lee told King he was wrong and King just gave the smallest retraction he could to save face and really didn't try to make it right.
>>152111720It would be nice if he didn't constantly turn EVERY single character he writes into a suicidal sobbing sad sack. He keeps turning characters that just plain are not like that into the exact same sad suicidal scared weird freak. You know what Wally isn't? A suicidally freaked out mass murderer. You what what Kyle Rayner is not like? A constantly praying scared shitless weirdo that speaks in google translate spanish.
>>152115418There was also that time King got an editor fired because he said that Finch wasn't available to draw the Batman proposes to Catwoman scene because he was on vacation. So King made the dude work on his vacation to draw that scene for his shitty-ass book.
>>152111720The man only write one fucking story over and over and over and over and over and over again.....>PTSD addled superhero is depressed and sad, meanwhile his life falls apart and he cannot do anything about it because superhero has PTSD and is sad. We fucking get it already. Vision is sad. Kyle is sad. Wally is sad. Robin is sad. Daredevil is sad. Batman is sad. Harley is sad. Everyone is sad and has PTSD, including the heroes that never once showed any sign of having PTSD at all until the second King showed up on a book. And heroes that have not getting freaked out or scared as a major aspect of their character like Hal Jordan is sad and has PTSD now.
>>152114153It didn’t do well. It didn’t sell at all and nobody had ever heard of it or him.
>>152114923>supposedly he's been groomed to be the new DC publisher when Jim Lee finally quits. What a joke.
>>152115583>including the heroes that never once showed any sign of having PTSD at all until the second King showed up on a bookWho is that? Specifics.
>>152115504>turn EVERY single character he writes into a suicidal sobbing sad sack>>152115583>Everyone is sad and has PTSDMaybe it's a cry for help? Torturing Iraqi civilians for years on end must've really messed with his mental health. And he did it to keep us safe, support our troops!
