Let's say that Tiff is supposed to represent Lucy. Alright, so who is Jordan a stand-in for? Because Mike wasn't desperately trying to court Lucy despite her tsundere bullshit. He still liked her (for some reason) but largely treated her as his best friend. Now, if Jordan is supposed to equal Paulo, the problem is that Paulo DID stop trying to get with Lucy pretty quick once she went icy bitch mode on him. Afterward he just tried to be a good friend and got punished for that too.

Bored dog standing in for Daisy clearly does not work on any level, so we can toss that in the garbage right out.

Which brings us to Jordan = Mike and Tiff = Sandy. Yeah, there was a period in which Sandy was obviously ghosting scarf cat. But I honestly don't know what his pestering would have contributed given she was spending 95% of her attention on work and Francis. It never felt like Sandy was using Mike, just treating him like an obligation that she was afraid of pulling the plug on. And even if that is the intended pairing, why bring it up now? Mike's pretty much over Sandy so none of this applies to him anymore. The only value this little puppet show could have is if Tiff came running back inside with some sob story about how she always loved Jordan more, and it's clearly because Enrique or whoever just dumped her out in the parking lot. And we the readers are meant to take this as a completely accurate recreation of what happened with Sandy back in Eternal Flame.

I also had the sneaking suspicion that Tiff = Mike, Jordan = Lucy. Though the two situations were so radically different that Taeshi would have to be utterly delusional to draw parallels between the characters. For example, Tiff/Mike "using" Jordan/Lucy despite clearly lacking any interest in them. It does not work because, even if you accept the notion that Mike ever used Lucy, period, there was no sign of that once he started to dislike worst cat. Likewise, Lucy never EVER put this much effort into courting Mike. At best, she harbored this vague hope that he'd suddenly stop hating her out of the blue, despite no changes in her own behavior.

So your alternative way of looking at this makes a lot more sense. Unfortunately, I suspect it is far too nuanced for Taeshi and we're going to get something that is both hamfisted and nonsensical.

Oh I don't know about that. She happily went along with using Abbey as a replacement Mike, living in pseudo-denial about it the entire time. This was brought up pretty early. And before that she tried to seduce Mike away from Sandy. Though given the comic's current "morality," maybe that's supposed to be a good thing in-universe now.

I didn't say she was all that great, just that she clears the bar set by the other 3. She knows she did Abbey wrong and feels bad about it, without making it all about herself. Which is more self-awareness and responsibility than Mike/Paulo/Lucy exhibit.

Her being pushy with Mike is probably her biggest faux pas, but she's aware that it's a problem rather than going "no, it's Mike who is wrong" like Lucy does.

See, I don't agree with that. Yeah, Daisy feels bad, but so what? Paulo and Mike both do, too. "Not making it about herself" doesn't really seem important when she does nothing to actually make up for past sins. What Daisy wants is to not have Abbey feel mad at her. She wants to avoid the consequences of her actions instead of actually making up for them. I don't see that as different in function, just flavor. Agreed that Daisy is better than Lucy but that's not a high bar.

That's the opposite of my perspective. What I mean by Daisy "not making it about herself" is that she chooses to leave Abbey alone and give him space, rather than constantly trying to apologize. She knows she can't actually DO anything to make it up to Abbey, so rather than bothering him she backs off and lets him set the terms. In that case and others, Daisy's reaction when she fucks up is to prioritize the feelings of whoever she wronged, rather than her own. Whereas Mike or Paulo tend to keep poking and picking in hopes of getting closure or sympathy.
