How did Absolute DC succeed where Ultimate Marvel failed?
>>
>>152146022
They dnt have the OMD retards ruining everything like Tom Brevoort, Joe Kelly and Nick Lowe
>>
>>152146022
From what i understand, its less that it failed and more like they decided to just kill it.
Otherwise i thought it was doing fine. Selling better than whatever shit was happening in 616.

You could tell that certain Marvel editorial was too embarrassed by Ultimate outperforming their mandated shit and tried to downplay it

When DC and Scott Snyder talked up how Absolute Batman #1 was the highest selling comic of 2024 someone at Marvel told Rich Johnston that Ultimate Spider-Man #1 actually had higher sales, which was strange because Marvel usually can't shut up about how much better it's doing than DC

Absolute WW has a comprehensible, simple backstory, she doesn't equate feminine power with hating men and she's fucking gorgeous
Absolute Superman was angsty shit until the last couple issues when the writers got told "more like Golden Age" and they obeyed
Absolute Batman is still dogshit for retards.
The Ultimate redo is an argument for euthanizing Hickman. It's misery porn for everyone who isn't Peter Parker, no one gives a fuck about X-Lolis (NOW IN WATERCOLORS!), and the Maker is less a villain and more a colossal douchebag.
>>
>>152146022
Absolute was allowed to grow and get good. Ultimate was ham strung by a retarded gimmick then smothered in the crib once the damage started showing

>hey let's show you a warehouse of all the interesting characters who got murdered in this universe
I can see why that was a free comic but still

Bro you're talking to one of the Spiderschizos don't give those freaks attention

The first Ultimate line had a number of problems but it wasn't just bile like this. It fucking failed.

I'm fine with that it's an alt universe and a bad start one at that. The issue is the real time gimmick, two years is not enough time to actually set up a decent ending for something like this. Just look at the fact that we aren't getting a satisfying rematch against Hulk. What we did get were constant time skips and shit happening offscreen and in flashbacks, fucking waste because there were a lot of cool shit that got set up but is now getting thrown out with the bathwater

So are Absolute WW, Superman, Flash, and GL.

Ultimate's never coming back, anon

Good. Ultimate's even worse.

Better handful of writer/artist teams that were allowed to take charge and weren't doing a gimmick like "Let's make time in the comic relative so it feels like a month really does pass each issue!" I loved UXM, USM was okay but fizzled, UBP took too long to get good, and Ultimate Wolverine is one of the worst comics from Marvel this year.
That and Hickman wanted the out so bad after what happened with Krakoa. Editorial easily could've extended it but with Hickman and Peach not going beyond the 2 year limit, it didn't make sense for the rest to keep going.

The villainous council running the world actually does shit instead of sitting off in the background and maybe rubbing their hands and cackling evilly while drinking a champagne glass filled with the tears of orphans. The Joker, Ra's, Cale, Hammond, and Thawne all do shit in their books.
In the Absolute Universe there's a kind of disturbing civility to how all the main antagonists of their books meeting up is treated as a business meeting, more or less. Most of the Maker's cronies are indistinguishable personality-wise beyond how cruel they are. Just compare One-Year In to Absolute Evil.

The fact that Marel would rather just not acknowledge Ultimate Spider-Man sales because MUH MARRIAGE shows how autistic Tom Brevoort is.

Listen to some of the interviews he's done recently. Nearly every point is counter what fans want. He even went into how people should be more open to generative AI. How he manages to piss off all sides of the fanbase at once is beyond me

>Just look at the fact that we aren't getting a satisfying rematch against Hulk
I thought Hulk was going to be the first true test of the Ultimates. They grouped together and tried to fight him and got their asses handed to them, after some time training and bonding they'd come together and finally defeat him as a good midpoint on the way to The Maker
But it's looking like Hulk is either just going to be the final fight or wallpaper for the final fight which feels like a hilariously missed opportunity

It revitalized Marvel in the 2000s, with more people interested in Ultimate than the mainline books. Ultimate became the new template for how to write Spiderman.
>>
>>152146022
They committed. They made an actual lone of comics that people like. And they'll continue to make them so long as people like them. Ultimate is just a stunt. It was exciting at first but they lured us in with a gimmick. Then they went hard with that real time gimmick. And now they're ending it just when it could have found itself as something genuine.
