modern cartoons be like:

>"I referenced something popular! PLEASE LAUGH!"
>>
its somehow worse in indie games, holy fuck i dont want to be reminded of a better game when im playing your stuff
>>
>>152157741
>>popular
That’s a meme from 2017
>>
>>152157775
and it aired in like 2021, how embarrassing!
>>
>>152157741
i would say this looks like it was made in goanimate but that would be insulting goanimate, this looks like it was made entirely with the circle tool in microsoft paint by a 5 year old
>>
>>152157805
actually it was done by koreans
>>
>>152157977
The designs are made by americans
>>
>>152157741
It's pathetic and desperate.
>>
>>152157805
The lineart was done with micron pens on paper. There are human hands that draw like that.
>>
>>152157741
What's the computer referencing?
>>
>>152157741
i hate it when a cartoon has obvious internet reaction meme faces like gumball or current spongebob
>>
>modern
This has been what cartoons have done since cartoons became a thing.
For instance, the "fellow American down on his luck" is Bogart's character from The Treasure of the Sierra Madre who did that to bum pesos off a guy three times before being told to fuck off.
>>
>>152158980
>current spongebob
Wrong, those are just standard cartoon faces
>>
>>152157741
what's being referenced in the laptop image, is it a doujin code or something
>>
>>152157741
You were too young to understand the references in the cartoons of your childhood.

Is 2003 "modern"?
There's also like a million little references in Billy and Mandy.

>There's also like a million little references in Billy and Mandy.
But that's different, it was 2003 like you said which isn't modern. It's referencing truly classic material, not something from like 3 or 4 years prior to its air date. Dragon Ball Z was really popular in the 90's and early 2000's.

Severance, apparently. I'm a huge severancefag, and even I didn't get it without context.

We can go older.

Those aren't modern references, those are from the 19th century.
>>
>>152157741
Why do you bother with cartoons?
>>
>>152159037
spongebob as of late tries too hard to be funny

They were modern when they came out.
Also, they were 20th century. Learn to fucking count.
>>
>>152159230
Abbot and Costello had only been together as an act for like six or seven years and were still together and doing their act when Babbit and Catstello were made as a reference to them.
Shit, A Tale of Two Kitties actually predates the the Abbot and Costello tv show by ten years and the first movie with them meeting a Universal monster by six years.
>>
>>152157741
This ain't a new thing, The Simpsons is the champion of referencing popular films.
>>
the world existed before you were born OP, just a reminder
>>
>>152157741
As opposed to 90s cartoons that referenced things youd need to be 40+ at the time to get
>>
>>152157741
all of your old cartoons are exactly the same but you didnt get the references because you were a kid.
>>
>>152159091
you think kids in the 2000s watched escape from new york or even knew what dune was?
>>
>>152159091
>Is 2003 "modern"?
That's a good question
Ronald Reagan and Bob Hope were still alive in 2003 at the beginning
2003 is closer to the launch of MTV than to today
We're not quite at the "Home Alone is closer to the moon landing than today" stage but we're close enough
>>
>>152159273
First (1st) century = Year 100 (1)
....
9th Century = Year 900
10th Century = Year 1000
...
19th Century = Year 1900 - 1999
20th Century = Year 2000
21st Century = Year 2100
>>
>>152159595
Dude, no.
1st century = 1AD to 100AD
2nd century = 101AD to 200AD
...
19th century = 1801AD to 1900AD
20th century = 1901AD to 2000AD
21st century = 2001AD to present

There was no 0th century, the first century counted begins from the first year counted in gregorian calendars.

God, Animaniacs was lame...
