You know, I have been catching some of the season 2 episodes on television and I was actually surprised by the quality of the animation in some of those episodes.
You can actually see the quality got from regular 80s saturday morning cartoon to 80s animated movie.

for me, this was just one of those shows that was there + you had to buy the action figures to have a chance of understanding anything that was happening. it's a swords and space opera I'LL GET YOU NEXT TIME, MAIN CHARACTER cartoon? i think?

It's kinda all over the place. Third Earth is a bizarre setting with all kinds of pulp sci-fi and fantasy bullshit all over it. One episode Lion-O is helping a village of mechanical Care Bears who speak in Vocoder. In another he's helping a Space Cop Lady with a magic boomerang and a gun that shoots soap. Lot of the early plots are just the Thundercats finding some weird bullshit on the planet and then dealing with it.
