>kills Disney TVA theatrical films in your pathNothing personal bro
The fact they made a Teacher's Pet movie and put it in theaters is a wild decision. Was the show even that popular? I feel it would've made a lot more sense for them to do a Kim Possible movie or something.
>>152189154The artstyle tripped me up.
>>152189154>DuckTales the Movie: Treasure of the Lost Lamp>A Goofy MovieI'd say worthy of the big screen, but runs a bit too short>The Tigger Movie>Return to Never LandStraight to home video-tier, meh.>Doug's 1st Movie>Recess: School's Out>Teacher's PetTV Movie-tier, should be no where near the cinemas. What were they thinking? What were they drinking?
>>152189154This shit was 100% an inside job excuse for them to get rid of their 2D team and go all in on CGINobody in their right mind would ever think Teacher's Pet: The Movie would ever make any money
>>152189708The show's crew thought a movie was a gold idea, enough that they began work on it around the time the show got the greenlit. The more bizarre thing is the high ups giving the greenlight on a theatrical movie after the show didn't do so hot apparently because of a case of sunk cost fallacy, yet barely marketing it, shifting the release date to the last minute, and using the failure as the justification to never do a TV show adaptation for theaters again.
>>152189243In all honesty, throughout the lifespan of the show. It wasn't really popular to begin with, not helping the fact that the film was developed when the crew just finished the pilot or first episode as the execs hoped that the show would peak in some popularity like the rest of the then-current shows at that time, but it fell flat. The film took about three years to complete and by the time Disney debuted the film in early 2004, the show ended it's run in mid 2002. And in the end, this became a scrapegoat as to why DTVAs like Phineas and Ferb, Kim Possible, Gravity Falls or even possible Big City Greens would never get or see a theatrical release.
>>152191089Phineas not getting a theatrical movie is still wild.
>>152191089>the film was developed when the crew just finished the pilotWeird. I never knew that. Waa Teacher's Pet the only show-to-movie pipeline that did that?
>>152189672Doug was oroginally for Home Video but a retarded Disney exc thought it was a good idea to make it a theatrical movie after the sucess of The Rugrats Movie. You can see it in the final film with that weird ass aspect ratio who looked off in theaters
>>152189243Pepper Ann would made more sense, she also has a movie planned but it got scrapped for some reason.
>>152191347So much of it was just Disney execs jealous of Nickelodeon. Stay in your fucking lane.
>>152191445Nickelodeon only thrived within the theatrical market, CN and Disney Channel dropped out after their first flops. However it's only Spongebob and Paw Patrol who keep getting films even something like The Loud House had it's films be label as streaming content.
>>152189154>multibillion-dollar too big to fail Disney killed 2D because of that movieNo, folks. 3D was just more profitable. For a brief period at the height of Network cartoons, movies could be released frequently, and this relationship helped extend 2D cinema in the West. But then Shrek happened, and they just couldn't keep the bubble going.
>>152191601That's what I meant. Nickelodeon was successful on TV and can justify a theatrical film based on a TV property. The expectations for Disney are entirely different, and success happened in reverse - you have an original theatrical film like Aladdin or Hercules or Tarzan or whatever, and you give them an animated series. Doug and Teachers Pet should never have gotten films, ever. To do so is opposite of the Disney brand and business strategy.
Taylor St. Clair playing a retarded girl reading a Teacher's Pet-centric issue of Disney Adventures in the 2000 adult film Ass Clowns.
>>152191791You just know
>>152191791That's great man.
>>152191791Coincidentally "Teacher's Pet" and "Ass Clowns" are both double-meaning titles.
>>152191748>Doug and Teachers Pet should never have gotten films.Only difference is Doug was rather mid and still has some popularity, while not as similar to that of The Rugrats or Ren and Stimpy, but was rather remembered as a nickelodeon show than a disney one. Teacher's Pet on the other hand, wasn't and not at least. >>152191791Wow.
>>152191791Wild pull, anon.
>>152189154I remember seeing the trailer for this in theaters when I was 10 or 11 and being surprised that this show of all things got a real movie when there were much better Disney shows to choose from
>>152189154Did anyone else hate this show? It wasn't just the art style what was horrible but the human boy was so fucking annoying. He was always going on about how a dog must be a dog and he was envious his dog actually had intelligence and talent. And in the finale when his dog truly became human he was at his most insufferable about the whole he being a dog.I just wanted the dog to realize he's intelligent and skilled and decides to abandon that annoying twerp of a boy who only got in his way all the dam time. Especially since he did become a real human he can actually be independent.
>>152189708>This shit was 100% an inside job excuse for them to get rid of their 2D team and go all in on CGII tought it was Treasure Planet, with Disney doing a poor marketing campaign to justify their transition to CGI
>>152189708How? Princess and the Frog and Winnie the Pooh (2011) came out years later
>>152189243Gary Baseman was a big deal in the late 90s/early 2000s. Making Teachers Pet into a movie was all about getting that Cranium money
>>152189672>Doug's 1st Moviewhy did they call it this? did they really expect to make more?
>>152189154But I liked it.
>>152192588Bob Iger only ever greenlit those to win favor with Roy and Diane Disney since bringing 2D animation back was one of the big talking points of Roy Disney's "Save Disney" movement that ousted Eisner and resulted in Bob Iger gaining his power. Same reason why they got Oswald back and did fuck all with him outside Epic Mickey.
>>152189708>>152189154Weren't the creators/writers of the show involved in one of the first non-Pixar Toy Story 3 drafts?
>>152189154this show was really fucking ugly in a very fascinating way. i remember watching it just because of that
>>152189154The songs from this movie had no right being as good as they were.
>>152189243They greenlit the movie the same time the show was greenlit.
>>152191791>Read about the scene>IntellectplayWelp.New fetish, I fucking guess.
>>152192743I just like Nathan Lane. It's weird to me that he had starring role in a shitty nothing cartoon.
>>152189388OK this keeps bugging the shit out of me. Is this the same artist who did the artwork for the board game Cranium?I can't be the only one who sees it, right?RIGHT?!
>>152192743>>152192799Meant to quote you to this too
>>152192603I know Cranium is a best-selling board game, but was Gary Baseman really a "big deal"? Back then his art was niche and mostly popular among indie/underground circles, and I doubt people liked Cranium because the art alone, let alone go watch a cartoon/film because it shared art with a board game
>>152192799Nah it was him I'm sure he did the art for Airbourne too.Which was created by a Math Teacher.
>>152189154I don't know how this became as popular as it did. The art style and character designs for this show were horrible. For me, the only good part of this show were the backup singers on the theme song.
>>152192966>I'm sure he did the art for Airbourne tooholy shit i've seen the packaging plenty of times before but now... NOW... I will never see it the same againHOW FAR DOES THE RABBITHOLE GO, ANON?!
>>152193034Who is this genius math teacher? Is he the man on the cover???
>>152193068If you look closely, he's seemingly holding a pencil in his hand. Grading homework on the plane?!
>>152192997I remember watching this on One Saturday Morning when I was 8 and 9. This was a "I watched it because it was on" show, when Recess and the good Fox cartoons like Digimon and Godzilla were already over. One great thing about living in a post-basic cable world; I no longer have to waste time with garbage because I had the rare privilege of watching cartoons once a week.
