Why the fuck is Zod’s comic book history so bizarre? He was a nothing character who becomes famous for being used in the Superman movies. Instead of capitalizing on his popularity, they introduce a bunch of different Zods from alternate universes because they want to keep the status quo that Superman is the last Kryptonian. The “real” Zod doesn’t even become canon until 2007. This seems like an incredibly easy example of corporate synergy they just completely whiffed on.
