>people love and appreciate indie games that mimic the japanese games the dev grew up with>people hate and make fun of indie comics that mimic the manga the author grew up withi will never understand why this is the case. comic readers seethe whenever they see a westerner try to make a japanese inspired comic. they mald when someone calls it manga as well. no one spergs out this hard when you call a turn based rpg made by a westerner a jrpg.
>>152195628>Radiantfag is pretending to be a victim>Again
>>152195628It's funny how Radiant gets hate here and on /a/ giving it nowhere to be allowed to talk about it. Meanwhile Wakfu is beloved here. When in all honesty if you watch both of these things Wakfu is more full of weeb tryhard bullshit more than Radiant.
>>152195640I don't think Radiant itself is hated here and more that the guy who keeps shilling it is blatantly an East vs West spammer who genuinely thinks western comics HAVE to imitate manga 1:1 to succeed. Still, it's the second most disliked wannabe /a/ comic series here by default because of that.Wakfu is carried by two things, the fanservice and Nox being THAT good of a villain
>>152195628Dude if you talk about Radiant so badly try storytiming unless you were that guy who storytimed in 2021 cause in that case, at least you tried. There are MULTIPLE ways to try and get /co/ into a comic you likeAside from storytiming you could always try panel/page threads, waifu threads, etc
>>152195640Its because implementation matters, anon. Wakfu has anime in its DNA, but its good for reasons that are its own and stands on its own feet. You could change the art style of wakfu to something else and it would still be a good show. But most of the indie comics that are based on manga the author grew up reading... are not good. They are just trying to repackage someone else's better ideas assembled poorly or worse yet, depending on the western audience to not be familiar with what they have ripped off and praying they mistake it for an original idea. Comics like "Diesel" deserve nothing but derision. You can't get more blatant about stealing someone else's idea than stealing Stands and even still *calling them stands*. They couldn't even rename them into something else to maintain the illusion of originality. Obviously its possible to take ideas from anime and manga and spin off a new story from them thats good. But you can't just plop the thing you think is cool into the middle of your own story and expect people not to call you out on it. Like when Amphibia gave Anne a super saiyan power up, people's reaction was not "Wow, cool!" it was "...really? With the wind effect and everything?"
>>152195895>Comics like "Diesel" deserve nothing but derision. You can't get more blatant about stealing someone else's idea than stealing Stands and even still *calling them stands*. >>152195628You have to remember /co/ is the most anti-manga/anime board due to the nature of it's subject matter.
>>152195628>no one spergs out this hard when you call a turn based rpg made by a westerner a jrpg.Because jrpg has two definitions: one is about country of origin, and the other is about game style. These days the second definition typically overrides the first one, because so many different rpgs come out of japan that pretending that they are all the same would be asinine (Dark Souls and Nier Automata and Final Fantasy 7 are all wildly different games) but anyone playing Expedition 33 is going to agree that lumping it in with games like Persona or Yakuza Like a Dragon or other modern turn based JRPGs is a valid comparison even if the game is french. Its simply obviously true that they share game mechanics and overlap in genre. Manga, meanwhile, *is* still largely defined by country of origin. Just being "like manga" isn't enough to qualify as manga, as seen by korean comics that very clearly are inspired by Japan's style getting their own unique title of Manhwa instead.
>>152195895I enjoyed the Radiant anime. I didn't even know it was actually technically a Franime or whatever but it was enjoyable enough on its own.
>>152195940/co/ is FULL of weebs
>no one spergs out this hard when you call a turn based rpg made by a westerner a jrpg. But they do, people barely even use the term WRPG now for example. I've never heard of Radiant, but the reason I don't like series that take inspiration too hard from some source is that they end up as nothing but a pale reflection. Teen Titans (the show) isn't an anime but it is full of inspiration from it while standing on its own. Kappa Mikey is trash
>>152195628> dude sorcerers are like heckin Immigrants & minorities and the inquisition that protects innocent from violent sorceras are heckin racists ChudOnly a eurofag could draw inspiration from the East and fuck it up this bad.
>>152195662>the guy who keeps shilling it is blatantly an East vs West spammerThis. Based on the pages I've seen, which that anon posted, I never want to bother with this series. I can get these kicks much better with actual manga.
>>152195628/co/ likes to goon and watch stuff. They don't like fake /a/ shit that they have to read.
>>152195628Because they're shit
>>152195946I always liked the moniker for Swedish manga being "mänga".
>>152196634No one has this attitude vs indie jrpgs.
>>152195628I will say Radiant has some of the best looking POC out there
>>152195628MHA style ripoff
>>152195863I storytimed it.I tried first on /a/ because it was published first in Japan/had an anime but the fit thrown was too much. Even if the Nannie’s never deleted the thread. On /co/ I just couldn’t stand the captcha anymore. Even with the extension.
It’s amazing how many storytimed dropped off after the captcha went to 1 minute.

>>152195628Endeavor's isekai cousin?
>>152200486Only in it channeling the X-Men.Really is cleaves closer to One Piece and Rave Master in style.
Even if this wasn’t made by a weeb. It lacks the bait to get any traction on modern /co/.
>>152201729I see a little Black Clover as well.
>>152195895>Comics like "Diesel" deserve nothing but derision. How dare you, Diesel's a masterpiece.
>>152195640Like a lot of French comics /co/ likes Wakfu for the waifus
>>152195628Games are more fun to play, thus less judgment.
>>152199673When?
>>152204904Geez, posting being 30 seconds was back in 2014 I think.
>>152195895Not enough comic authors (who want to make their own not-manga) in in the West (America or Europe) read enough books, watch enough movies, listen to enough music, or read enough manga/comics to actually make their dreams a reality. All of the best selling or noteworthy manga are made by people who either tapped into the cultural zeitgeist at the right time, actively take in from different mediums and genres, or do both. This doesn't just apply to manga, this applies to movies, games, books, music, etc. Hard work and connections can only get you so far.

>>152196010It's a pretty surface level reading to pull inquisition = evil from the story
I actually really like Radiant and it sucks there isn't really anywhere to discuss it. I don't really get people who are hung up over the east vs west shit since I'm pretty content both watching and reading stuff from the west as well as japan.
>>152205903It helps that there ARE thousands of lazy manga and LN that do exactly what you warn against and just lazily slap things together with no greater thought or meaning, but the ecosystem they exist in is competitive enough that the best examples usually float to the top and the slop sinks down out of sight and memory.Western comics are generally two kinds: big IP slop that is mandated by executives and will be printed regardless of what anyone else thinks as long as they are willing to keep paying for it, and indie self-funded stuff that will be published as long as they are able to to keep paying for it. There just really isn't a review process that filters the good from the bad in western comics. Its all just dumped on the table and you made do with whats there. The competition is very low, in large part because there are just not that many comics being published, or comics readers to pay attention to them, to form a strong filtration process where things CAN float to the top.
>>152209680I also like both, but I don't like this.
