As a kid it always annoyed me how the end credits showed the characters in movies mostly from the 90's instead of the 40's and 50's. Seems like it was some weird contractual cross-promotion thing from WB.
>>
>>152220724
I like the alternative timeline where they fail to break the Hollywood system and Danny moves back to the Midwest to slowly work up a career in theater (Sawyer eventually locates and joins him)

That would've been cute but also sort of a downer. A funnier ending would be for everything to be the same up until the point when the director and producer guys start acting buddy-buddy with the animals at the end of the film and offer them Hollywood starring roles. Instead of accepting, the animals refuse and tell them to get bent and then they all leave to go make movies in Kokomo which (in a credits montage) gradually becomes the new center of American filmmakling as Hollywood is left behind and driven to bankruptcy. Basically have the entire film be one long setup for that punchline.
>>
>>152220724
You don't go now because movies and snacks cost a car payment. Back in the 1930s you'd go in a quarter and leave with change
>>
>>152221665
It was because they were taking a risk assuming the audience would get what they were doing then, they needed to have some reference a kid would actually get.

>and snacks
Wasn't even common in the 30s and only took off in the late 40s. Tickets were relatively cheap but still cost almost an hours wage for the nicer theaters.

I don't go to movies now because the theater experience isn't worth it or a barrier to accessibility when the Sony TV in my living room is better than a bad theater and 90% as good as a good one.

>she's much older than the child star she was so many years ago when you were just a lad
>she also puts more food away than you thought she would, too...

>she closes her eyes, takes a deep breath...
>... and for the next half-minute, the vehicle is filled with the sound of a noisily-deflating balloon, her mouth growing into a relieved smile
>she sighs
>"Glad to finally let that out. Hope that wasn't too much of a shocker~"
>taken aback and out of breath, you fail to find the words to say
>as if by providence, the limo comes to a stop
>"Oh! This is your place. Heh... sorry to end our time together on an... awkward note..."
>you tell her it was no problem, assuring her you had a wonderful night before you both exchange goodbyes
>as her luxury transportation drives off, you know one thing for sure: that was definitely not something you expected...

Loved that idea that came about of what a sequel could be like for this Darla:
>Sequel set about 10 years later
>This is going to be late 1940s or so, but around the point female stars are starting to get more serious recognition
>Have Darla now climbing her way back into stardom faced with a few other former child actresses all hitting their prime and all in competition to become the biggest starlet in Hollywood
>Darla's biggest flaw is she still has too much of her adorable childlike qualities in her appearance
>She can't pull off the sexy seductive look some of the other young actresses can
>Meanwhile the animals are facing a similar issue
>They're still treated as the sappy light hearted type of stars
>Just like Darla, they're still typecast in movies meant for kids
>Darla wants to make a big serious movie to propel herself into more dramatic adult roles for herself
>The animals need a serious movie to show they have real acting chops
>This leads to an unlikely alliance where both need each other but hate one another's guts
>Darla still has the fortune to bankroll one last blockbuster movie
>The Animals have the only studio that will give her the chance to be a big leading actress in a role no one thinks she can handle
>Naturally nether wants to do it
>But Darla is sitting on one last script from a now dead, legendary screenwriter who had envisioned a big movie that needed animal actors
>And the studio the animals are in control of just signed on their first human actor, a young man with the looks and acting skills the be a great leading man
>They need each other too much not to make this movie together
>But can they really put the past behind them to pull this off?

Maybe he was a whale-human-gorilla hybrid. And the racism of the setting is why he is relegated to the servile class. Like how Thomas Jefferson enslaved his own child. That adds up. That's probably exactly what the writers and animators had in mind.

>Cats don't dance
Am I being led to believe that they don't dance but at the end of the movie they indeed do dance?
>>
>>152253824
once you recognize the secret reason for their dancing you will feel ashamed of your words and deeds
>>
>>152220389
I'm sorry, I can't focus on your hypothetical because I just want to fuck Sawyer so bad.
>>
>>152250403
She's going to get chunky beyond baby fat if she keeps eating like that
>>
>>152256986
Would you go to the theater and publicly fap to Sawyer's movies?
>>
>>152240641
And it's pretty gorgeous.
Although, I'm curious how this movie would look with an HDR colour grade on a 4k BD.

I suppose it's no /co/ but I remember there was this one anime movie with a girl transforming into a cat.
It was a such a rip-off the boy didn't get to fully transform in the third act. Instead, he only got crummy cat ears.

>>
>>152262070
was gonna call bullshit on this- because how would you watch Nazi films in the US?- but I looked it up and there *was* a bit of an industry in the 30's (until 1942) for importing German and Austrian films to the US, including theaters in New York that showed them exclusively. Guess that's kind of interesting but I'd much rather see those Italian historical dramas the fascists were bankrolling before the war.

>Plot: In the traditional and conservative Eastwick, the sculptress Alexandra Medford, the shy musician and teacher Jane Spofford and the journalist Sukie Ridgemont are best friends. Alexandra is a widow; Jane is divorced since she can not have a child; and Sukie is divorced because she frequently gets pregnant and has five children. They are sexually repressed and one night, they describe the characteristics of their ideal man while drinking. There is a storm on the town and the mysterious Daryl Van Horne appears in town and buys a notorious mansion. Nobody can recall his name, but he seduces the three friends. Meanwhile the pious Felicia Alden, who is married with Sukie's boss Clyde Alden, has a weird accident and feels that Daryl is the devil. When Felicia dies, Alexandra, Jane and Sukie realize that there is something strange about Daryl.

What an odd movie to reference.
