The urge to make your story a "genre x but flipped on its head to be scary/depressing" is something I can relate with because I've been there when I was a 19/20 year old in animation school.But these ideas absolutely need to fucking die with your schooling. They want to cram every cool idea they have into one "super story" that will have everything they ever want to stay, and it just muddies the story. I used to have the same problem when drafting characters, I'd have so many ideas for aesthetics and personalities that I'd try to make them fit into one, but once I got in the habit of making more characters it became easier to parcel those ideas out.

The SMG4 guys were already millionaires - they also have their own fan subscription thing so they don’t have to give patreon a cut. I would assume the release strategy reflects their confidence in the products to sustain the business as it grows.
