I wasn’t allowed to watch Mr. Meaty as a kid because my parents thought it was “too scary”.
Looking back as an adult, that was a good move because there is some surprisingly messed up stuff in it like the tapeworm scene.
>>
Anything with magic because MAGIC = SATAN according to insane and psychologically deranged Christian parents.
The result, a lot of shows got banned.
>>
My mom didn't want me to watch Batman: the Animated Series because she felt that it would be too scary. (Also, she probably wanted to curb my fixation on Batman.) Also, she didn't approve of The Simpsons because it was so crass and Bart was constantly disrespectful.

>>152284054
Anon, that is slightly concerning.
If they see the current state of animation, they would probably have a heart attack.

Mr. Meaty got way too much hate for no reason. It was a funny and cute show.
>>
My parents never forbid me from watching any cartoon, but I remember everyone around me wasn't allowed to watch Ed Edd N' Eddy or other Cartoon Network shows, because apparently they were "A bad influence"... not like it mattered as those kids were assholes regardless anyways. And then by Middleschool they just moved onto Family guy and South park, the only exceptions being the ones already watching Family Guy and South park.
It was kind of hard being a CN kid then, everyone was either "I'm not allowed to watch such heretical garbage" or "Really? You're not watching South Park? You baby!", you were just stuck in a weird in between that never fit in anywhere.

I wasn't allowed to watch (and probably play) stuff on Newgrounds after I showed my mother this episode of Salad Fingers and she told me to stop watching it when Salad Fingers cuts himself with the Nail on the wall

I remember watching with my mom in the room when it premiered. She was like WTF are people watching now, but she stayed to watch so she mustve liked it a little bit.

My parents had no limits. They let me watch South Park when I was a kid. Weirdly, according to my mom, the only show she wished she hadn't let me watch was Ren and Stimpy, but she never elaborated as to why.
>>
>>152286273
Very confusing considering SP got away with a LOT more than Ren and Stimpy ever did.
>>
>>152286492
Yeah. I have a very vivid memory of watching Bigger, Longer, and Uncut. My mom just walking by without a care in the world while Sadam wiggled his dick at Satan. She didn't even comment.
Meanwhile she walked by while I was watching the baboon episode of Ren and Stimpy and stopped to comment aloud "I don't know why I let you watch this crap."

I loved this show as kid. I remember it being pretty funny and I liked the two guys. While I did thought the puppets were creepy, they didn’t unsettle me out like it as with so many other people; the creepy puppets and the bizarre happenings kept me intrigued. I need to give it a rewatch.
>>
As a kid, I didn't know anyone who wasn't allowed to consume things explicitly made for children. I'm guessing everyone on here who says delusional shit like "everyone's parents banned at least ONE Cartoon Network show" either grew up in Utah or went to private school.

>Ren & Stimpy is garbage
a good chance you're talking about games episodes rather than episodes made by the actual creator
When John was fired from Ren and Stimpy. That brought on the garbage games seasons, which are a sort of father of the modern animation status quo. The games seasons look amazing compared to most modern animation but I bet modern animation of the timelines where John wasn't fired looks a whole lot better.
Ren and Stimpy itself was in part a return to sane animation production and games spoiled along with a lot of other people on later shows. Today storyboarders even complain on Twitter that John made them have to write dialogue on storyboards, and it's not like they come up with classic dialogue.

Not a cartoon but this is the one I think he felt more strongly about. It's a martial arts anime but main character can change from boy to girl when splashed with hot/cold water (forgot which one turns him male and which one turns him female) dad thought that shit was gay.

Mom didn't really have a problem with any cartoon I was watching, except for this one particular episode of the Simpsons where Homer picks up Bart from soccer practice and Bart imagines Homer's face melting off, she thought that one scene was scary. Other than that episode, she didn't mind me watching The Simpsons.

>but I got over it after finding out my best friend's mom banned SIMPSONS in their house.
This was pretty common in the 90s, really. The Simpsons was pretty much the first time any American was exposed to a cartoon that had adult content of any capacity, so there was a lot of pearl-clutching over it. Apart from the language, there was a huge panic that Bart would be a bad influence on kids. But parents don't realize cartoons don't make your kids bad. Bad parenting makes your kids bad. The irony is that The Simpsons makes it explicitly clear that's why Bart was bad. The show was smarter than the adults who attempted to demonize it.

>>152292917
>South Park kinda was
I still remember my mom finding out about South Park and telling me I wasn't allowed to watch it until she and my dad passed judgment. One night, I could hear them from my room watching an episode, and my mom kept getting angry at my dad for laughing. I think it was the Halloween/Pink Eye episode. Good times.

My parents were pretty chill about me watching cartoons, South Park was the only one they (ie my mom) explicitly banned. Same story with video games, nothing M rated but that’s it. It was mainly live action media plus music and books they scrutinized. Once I turned 14 I had free range over whatever I wanted to watch or play because either they trusted my judgment since I was now old enough to “know better” or they just stopped giving a shit idk
But to add a story, for some reason my dad fucking hated Jimmy Neutron. Never found out why.

General gross out shows were also banned, at least when my mom was in the room. Anything with barf scenes in particular, so stuff like Rockos modern life, catdog etc always got me an earful
