It's no masterpiece, but Gobots is honestly a fun and decent cartoon in its own right

I've been watching it and it does have some good stories and interesting designs... at least in space and on Gobotron. The animation of the gobots themselves is subpar, partly because they have such chunky, unarticulated hands (clamps, more like). Also it's the same 6 bots all the time, they need more variety in bots per episode. Overall a solid C+ with a few B+ gems.
It's less dynamic than Transformers buy way more consistent, both in storytelling and animation.Seriously there's episodes of Transformers that feels like memories of animation or slideshows. Yes the robots look cooler, but the studios were clearly unprepared to animate them.

What stood out to me about TF was 1) Skyfire, the Autobot who is clearly a Valkyrie from Macross/Robotech, is a way bigger part of the show than I remember. He gets a large amount of solo adventures and is rarely seen with other Autobots & 2) the animation is ass. The strangest thing is the Autobot and Deception insignias will come and go at random. And it won't be something like Bumblebee has the insignia, it cuts away to something and then comes back to Bumblebee without the insignia. Its like Bumblebee will be talking and the insignia goes away and comes back. Now Transformers The Movie is the peak of toy commercial cartoons. I will swear by that one. But the series? Naw.

The show was in production around the same time as TF but aired a yearish later, however the toys were out before TF.
