As a franchise Pokemon is a top dog, but in terms of relevance to the public sphere it was a fad. Like the days where Pokemania dominated everything where relatively short lived even if Pokemon continues to make more and more money. The same thing happened again when Pokemon Go came out

It is hard to quantify in today's world where people, especially with entertainment, are pulled in so many directions.
