There is only so much Andy Sandberg anyone can stomach. The first is still pretty good, the rest not so much. With tarkovski pulled from production during the unwatchable popey testprint debacle/trying to dig this series out of the hole and Sandler dipping the writing was on the wall.

Bad toys, like a single switch console shovelware game that isn't good and doesn't even have a high poly model to pull for... purposes, the skuddbutt goblin mavis poisoning the 3D art pool and newer 3D model having a bad default body, cartoon effectively not airing in the US market, etc. it's been a hard road to hoe for franchise relevancy.

Loras are the best way to make 3D screen accurate Mavis art but sloppa comes with its own set of problems.

If you're angry about her getting sidelined you should know she was never the main character to begin with. Not even in hotel transylvania's earliest form, she was just the love interest for the protagonist. The focus did begin to shift towards her around 2008 when a different director took over but that changed after two more directors and then finally Genndy. Proto Johnny was the love interest when the focus moved to her and Dracula's father-daughter relationship. I feel like you can see this in any piece of concept art from 2008-2009.

It so much more complicated than that, this movie was in development since 2004 apparently and it's first script was completed by 2005. But yeah some of the humor has Sandler written all over it but that's because Sony wanted to bring the movie back to being a comedy, its less Sandler and more Sony. The alt Mavis costume change outfits and setting work like the European town and cityscapes the original John Hughmann takes her through are a movie I'll always be sad was turned into Sony's failed illumination killer. I won't disagree that Sandler stole the show but you don't do Mavis any justice by saying things like that. Upbeat and curious but naive is definitely not flat. She can't really grow too far from that in film version because the movies are actually about the Hotel and its family story but also to express to growing women that their fathers are doing what they feel is right, and that a good father will be there even if he makes mistakes. That's why it dwells on the relationship with Johnny and eventually ends with him getting with a new woman and finding his own happiness. His actions were a projection of his insecurities and trauma regarding his wife and their child who he is desperate to protect. And also why Mavis gets extremely protective of her child. The show was less popular because it is not very entertaining but I did enjoy how she was allowed to stretch her legs a little and become more independent from the narrative that tied her up in the first place

Considering Dracula had all but retired from the game and opened a hotel, if anything, I could see him coming in to taunt and tease him whenever he's in town. Maybe they even have an agreement.
