Is there a reason why ancient shows like Rocko's Modern Life and The Angry Beavers were able to reach a million viewers with each episode, while Dan Vs. couldn't even do it for one episode? Even in 2011, shows on kids cable networks were still able to get a million viewers.

Because back then we watched Nickelodeon, simple as. If you were a kid and you were home in the early-mid 90s, it was on Nickelodeon. Sometimes Cartoon Network if you had it but far more kids had Nickelodeon than Cartoon Network back then. Today there is so many options and streaming services kids watch a billion different things. They aren't all watching the same show at the same time like we did back then.

Cartoons stopped being watchable and people stopped watching, simple as

Until smartphones and social media, the west had a monoculture. That is mostly gone now, completely replaced by 100s of 1000s of sub cultures.

Back when Rocko aired you had PBS, the 4 or 5 main stations via antenna then you could pay for cable. If you were really rich you could get a satellite dish as big as a Volkswagen.

So for free, you could watch sesame Street and the Disney afternoon and some Saturday morning cartoons. Thats why almoat all 80s kids have memories of this stuff.

If you paid for cable you could get Disney and Nick depending on the package. Around the time rocko came out, a lot of families had cable and paid for the larger channel packages.

Also, all this stuff was kind of limited. You only had so many chances in a day yo warch cartoons. For the rest of the day you had school or had to entertain yourself. It was difficult to allow screens to ruin your life.

Even with early internet, the culture and media beyond the computer was mostly the same. We talked about the shared culture.

Social media, YouTube, ecelebs, and high speed internet changed all that. The comics ans price changed all of it too.

Why couldn't Dan Vs. be as successful as Beavers and Rocko when it premiered in 2011? Dan Vs. was arguably a better show. It is one of the best comedies ever made.

This. The Hub was nicknamed the MLP channel or the Hasbro network when it used to be huge.
