After watching the most recent Dredd movie I decided to buy a bunch of the old Judge Dredd comics and really enjoyed them. After finishing the 2000AD I'm not sure what else to read. What of the comics are worth reading?

Let's say I wanted to have a movie night with friends here we watched either the old or new Dredd movie - BUT I want us to have a small, good exposure to the comic before hand.Is there one singular physical release anyone would suggest? An appetizer?
