Honestly for as bad as the job is now a lot of American teachers suck at their jobs because lower pay and benefits = lower hiring standards.The less people look at the hiring standards for certain areas, the better they sleep at night. A lot of the special needs positions barely even have hiring standards to begin with. Have any kind of general teaching degree and there are "certification" programs to "transition" over to the department even if you have no experience or expertise in the myriad of disorders the kids can have. The worst part is when it comes to teachers who also make for good sports coaches or other prestigious extra curricular areas who are just kinda given teaching jobs to keep them as coaches even if the actual teaching position was better filled by someone else. Faculty jobs too. Notably support jobs like the In-school suspension manager.
