Why do all the adults in HTTYD have Scottish accents when the teenagers have American accents?
>>
I used to have a Southern accent when I was growing up. Exposure to another accent ("American General" a.k.a Mid-Atlantic) gradually erased it.

The young heroes will lose their American accents with exposure to the Scottish accent, becoming Scottish-accented adults.

Put another way, the American accent is clearly seen as a very commoner rural form while Scottish is clearly the mainstream accent of the land.

>we are all descendants of the finest dragon fighters from everywhere Vikings have traveled, who gathered here because they knew that we were within spitting distance of a key dragon’s nest.
the live action isn't amazing but iirc it kinda added some more obvious cues that they were a bunch of hunters gathered on an island. It's only reasonable that after a generation or two their children would slowly develop their own new manner of speaking that's a blend of their parents'

Why do the movies excuse and justify a mother abandoning her family?
>>
>>152331759
It’s actually a Canadian accent.

Honestly that felt out of character for a Viking mother. Independence I can buy. Abandonment no.

I'm not saying your assumptions are wrong, but look deeper:
>the movie where she's introduced also introduces Drago Bloodfist
>even Stoic calls Drago insane because he murdered in cold blood all of the other dragon hunters for not submitting to him
>He did this by siccing dragons on them.
>Mom knows about drago so you could figure that if she showed up with dragons everyone would find problems with it one way or another
>chooses to leave and keep the peace for everyone involved
She wasn't expecting the rest of the village EVER supporting dragons or to see her son follow in her footsteps as before her no other viking had properly tamed dragons and understood them at a deeper than surface level. She thought she was the only one who could possibly understand them and sought to protect the nest she found and their dragon alpha king. I'mreally fuckin tired though Idk if that makes sense

Because… fuck you that’s why

Lol I dunno

>The VIKINGS all sound like Scottish people (instead of, know you, fucking Scandinavians or something)
>unless they're the main focus characters with the most lines, in that case they sound Americans because of course they do
I really wish shit like this didn't fucking infuriate me as much as it does, because its so fucking common in pretty much all media. Doesn't matter what culture or ethnicity the characters are supposed to have, they are always just voiced by actors belonging to the nationality that the media is marketed to. I fucking hate it. Its so lazy, boring and unauthentic.

The author of the book was Scottish and it was inspired by her time in the Scottish highlands.
