A lot of old shows like Avatar: The Last Airbender, Batman TAS, Teen Titans and Clone Wars got really overhyped by Nostalgia Critic-types wanting Western TV animation to be taken more seriously. They are fine, but they are hardly masterpieces.
>>
>>152332237
Teen Titans is the most confusing one to me since it's literally just a dumbed down anime version of the New Teen Titans comics.

Like, if you listen to the executive producer behind the show he fully admits he was just dumbing it down for 8 year olds.

The actual peak of Western animation is The Simpsons and you can tell by how many still imitate it to this day

Batman TAS is a masterpiece but I admit it has bad or boring episodes and a ton of her good animation is from japanese animators
>>
>>152332237
You are welcome to your opinion no matter how stupid it is.
>>
>>152332466
>how many still imitate it to this day
You mean FOX is still trying to imitate to this day because they only produce simpsons/family guy clones, productions moved away from The Simpsons long time ago.

>Avatar: The Last Airbender
It's probably the best Nickelodeon show but people talk about it like it's The Sopranos
>Batman TAS
Some really good episodes, some really bad ones
>Teen Titans
Meh. At least the girls are good.
>The Clone Wars
I haven't watched it but given the quality of everything else Dave Filoni has worked on I'm assuming it's overrated

I just rewatched Avatar: The Last Airbender and Batman TAS for the first time recently. Both of them are still among some of the best cartoons to air on television.

No

Is excellent as EU material and as a show meant for kids, there are better EU stories out there meant for different demographics though.

Teen Titans Go has always been the Teen Titans version that's for actual heterosexuals and not tranime fags

>Avatar
It's not as flawless as people like to claim but it's incredibly solid and frankly book 2 practically IS flawless. I think the praise is well-deserved considering how little precedent there was for a show like that to be made by Nickelodeon of all channels.
>Batman TAS
Completely unprecedented at the time, there was nothing like it in regards to Western TV animation. It does have some middling episodes, but none of them are outright terrible, and it has a number of genuinely fucking incredible episodes. Also deserves the praise.
>Teen Titans
I've seen sentiments sour on this one over the years (again) but I recently rewatched it and thought it was fucking great. Only a few moments in season 1 really felt grating to me in regards to the anime stuff, they got a lot better and utilizing them later on. Actually really liked how episodes could vary from incredibly serious to goofy comedies, made it feel like each episode could just be its own thing that way.
>Cone Wars
Never seen it, not gonna try to judge something I'm only aware of because of Ahsoka smut. Unless you mean the Genndy cartoon, that kicked ass and I don't see what someone could possibly even dislike about it.

Kinda funny you say nostalgia critic when he infamously made a video when he said "new" cartoons (back in 2015) like Steven Universe and Gravity Falls were better than old cartoons, the thumbnail was made fun of a lot around here

One of my really hot-take opinions is that TNBA, the "last season" of BTAS, is as strong as any prior season of BTAS and may be the strongest overall. People hate some of the character redesigns, but some of them are good (Scarecrow, Batgirl, Mr. Freeze) and the animation is a lot more consistent from episode to episode; Timm's belief that simplying the designs would improve the animation quality turned out to be right.

I'd also argue that TNBA has a huge collection of fantastic episodes. "Old Wounds," "Love Is A Croc," "Mad Love," "Mean Seasons," "Cold Comfort," "Legends of the Dark Knight," they're all good. IMO the only real clunker is the one with the mutant farm animals.

Overall it's just way more consistent than old-school BTAS, which had some really high highs but some really, really low lows, too.

Book 2 is at least a 9/10, it's probably a 10/10

I'd honestly call Book 1 an 8/10, it's great too

Really the downfall of the show is Book 3, specifically Sozin's Comet. Avatar's a brilliant show but I've just got to dock it points for fumbling its series finale.
>>
>>152332495
Batman TAS is better than The Crapman 2004, though.
>>
>>152332530
rude
>>
>>152332237
for Avatar it's mostly that there aren't really many other cartoons solely focused on that kind of continuous singular story, so it gets massively overrated due to the lack of competition
>>
>>152332237
Clone Wars genuinely pushed the envelope for high budget 3D CGI animation on TV, there was literally no competition until Arcane (or Love, Death Robots but that was a short anthology that used different styles per episode).
>>152334944
Avatar is pretty tight plot and setting wise, even comparing it to a lot of shonen anime at the time.
>>
>>152332667
The Filoni Wars fanboys hate the Gennedy cartoon because it's not what they grew up with. That's their only reason.

>The Filoni Wars fanboys hate the Gennedy cartoon because it's not what they grew up with. That's their only reason.
I see way more Genndy fans hating on the Filoni series.

Also the Filoni series should more accurately be called the Lucas series.
>>
>>152335946
There's also a bit of saltiness in that Genndy Grievous is this very cool force of nature and then Lucas made him a weak, coughing mustache-twirler whom Obi-Wan kind of effortlessly defeats.
>>
>>152332687
>Kinda funny you say nostalgia critic when he infamously made a video when he said "new" cartoons (back in 2015) like Steven Universe and Gravity Falls were better than old cartoons,
Nostalgia Critic is a walking meme but he wasn't entirely wrong there. He was mainly talking about those 80s shows that were just glorified toy commercials like Transformers, GI Joe or He-Man. He excluded BTAS or Gargoyles when talking about old kids cartoons.

The problem with that video is that he limited "new cartoons" to literally just Avatar, Adventure Time, Steven Universe and Gravity Falls. Just with including stuff like Regular Show, Gumball, The Looney Tunes Show, Scooby Doo Mystery Inc. or Wonder Over Yonder he would have had a stronger point.

Rex isn't a character and Ahsoka is a bad character that the CG Clone Wars fans just developed a crush on as a kid. It also ruined Grievous like the previous anon said too. The biggest problem with CG Clone Wars is that the longer it goes on, the less it fits in with the actual movies. (Heck, by season 7 we have Obi-Wan practically stating that he knows about Anakin/Padme's relationship) The Gennedy shorts don't have these problem.
There was one truly great character in the CG Clone Wars series however and it's incredibly telling of the show's fans how he is consistently overlooked for more fawning over Ahsoka and Rex.

>>152336120
>Avatar, Adventure Time, Steven Universe and Gravity Falls
These were the only ones he watched because his fans strong armed him into watching and reviewing them. He essentially skipped the entirety of the 90s and 2000s (except Avatar for the latter) because of how old he is which is kinda crazy
>>
>>152332237
I would like to hear what you consider to be a "masterpiece" or the closer to that term then
>>
>>152336166
The weird thing is that he has videos on Powerpuff Girls, Teen Titans and Samurai Jack, so it's not even like he was completely unaware.
>>
>>152336157
>It also ruined Grievous
That was never Grievous. Have you even watched Episode 3?
>>
>>152336120
>just glorified toy commercials like Transformers
and it was way better than shit like tranny universe I rather watch 80s shit like Transformers or TMNT over those garbage 2010s cartoons
>>
>>152336462
Yeah. When it came out. 3 times in theaters. You know what else I watched? The gennedy shorts before Episode 3 ever even made it to theaters.
Don't tell me it was never Grievous when it's your CG Grevious that's the faker.
>>
>>152336586
Was George Lucas more involved in Episode 3 or in Genndy clone wars? Was George Lucas more involved in Genndy clone wars or 3D clone wars?

"Badass" Grevious existed for 13 months. Grevious as envisioned by George Lucas has existed for 20 years.
