Why didn't 2003 Teen Titans and TTG adapt the Slade Island arc?
Oh I get it
Cause any questions about the pedo conspiracy ring ruling America would have been inconvenient for the Bushes.
Tbh, a big part of the reason is because Judas Contract followed so many damn years of multiple comic lines that it's value gets heavily lost if you don't have those.>Dick feeling like a child soldier>Beast Boy's family issues crippling depression leading to the resulting overattachment to and savior complex regarding TerraAnd finally. Slade's moral decay. When you have the full build-up, Slade starts as a more sympathetic villain with a clear honor code and morals, but increasingly throws those out as he gets more desperate and plays more mental gymnastics to justify himself. So reading the full 80s Titans isn't just "he's a pedo" but "holy shit he's gone far beyond the point of no return even as there's a human in there, he didn't do this because he was a pedo but because he had no qualms being a pedo it if it meant getting to win."
How do you think that would get past the censors
Robin said one of things that sets him apart is that he has friends and Slade doesn't. What's the message they're trying to send? That wanting to be left alone will turn you supervillain?
>>152340963Make it funny
>>152341152It makes sense for Robin to say that. He definitely helped Batman get through some hard times and there've been many a story of a loner Batman losing himself to his duty. Grayson's biggest quality is that he's the most hopeful of the Robins. You see it in how he deals with the Titans in the show, you see it with how he treats others like Damian or Babs, etc. That hope and love he feels is why he sometimes does dark things when the people he cares about get hurt (like his usual anger issues and almost killing the Joker) but he was saved by his support group. Deathstroke runs around trying to get revenge on a group of kids. It's much worse in the comics and Slade does get his revenge in some form, but it costs him way too much.
>>152340863>>152341489>Grayson's biggest quality is that he's the most hopeful of the Robins.Retroactive bullshit added in the 2010s to justify the existence of his half-dozen clones. Historically, Dick was Bruce's hope, not overly hopeful himself.
>>152341893I meant more that he's the light of the family, moreso somebody that brings hope to others rather than to himself. He struggles a lot with himself, but his friends and adopted family always helped him back up. You're right, I should've worded that better, but I hope you get the gist of what I'm saying.
>>152341893It feels like this is largely a result of trying to sand down Bruce himself.Dick getting angsty and realizing Bruce's flaws while grappling with the idea he's somewhat comparable to a child soldier has always been a core part of the mythos in his transition to Nightwing. All Star Batman and Robin is likely what soured it. In the 80s and 90s, the big peace moment where we separate Dick from a child soldier is when Dick realizes that Bruce was largely acting on the flaws and scars he can't get over, but in the interest of keeping him from having those same flaws and that Bruce tried his best to be a father figure.I think 2000-2015ish saw an era when people felt Bruce's more broken traits from the 80s Frank Miller stuff were being overplayed and the result is a lot of writers have OVER course corrected on that to the point a lot of what makes him unique is kinda gone, which results in characters like Dick having to be changed to match that new approach
>>152341489>>152342054What's the modern portrayal of each bat family member's "trait", then? I remember back then, Dick was the first, Jason was the one they failed, Tim was the smart one, Damian is the best at fighting. Did Jason's change now, what about the batgirls?
>>152341489>You see it in how he deals with the Titans in the showHe deal with them like soldiers
>>152342054I'd disagree. I think it has very little to do with Batman and everything to do with having to reposition Dick in the Bat-Family to make room for 5-7 additional supporting characters, half of which were created to directly fill the role he defined.
>>152342118It's complicated by the popularity of that webcomic. It's literally fanfiction, but also "it's fanfiction" in the derogatory sense that personalities are invented wholesale irrespective of the original material and unfortunately cross-pollinates back by writers who don't know better.
>>152342864What webcomic?
>>152342864Sure anon, but can you list them anyways or list what they were before the webcomic?
>>152343646They mean Wayne Family Adventures. >>152342118Thinking you need to give Dick "traits" is ruining a classic character. It's reductive.
>>152345174You're being dramatic, it's not gonna change your enjoyment of the character and people know there's more to most of these characters beyond just that one thing. Unless they don't read and judge things based off of osmosis or tv shows. But in that case, you'd be stupid if you let them get to you
>>152340963They got away with making him a pedophile with Raven and Terra.
>>152345272I mean, it's been over 30 years of Dick losing emotional range, intelligence, etc. to fit into an ever-shrinking box of allowed characteristics.
>>152346218That didn't happen, retard
