it's really hard to explain without making you read a lot of textbooks just how different a concept that was back in the 80s compared to today

people didn't even buy Japanese electronics or cars regularly until the 80s, so although Claremont was definitely a bit of a weaboo in 1982 he was also working with some very outdated notions of what Japan was like, which is reasonable given any experience he'd had directly would be the tourist experience, guide books maybe, and Japan still seemed like an exciting, fresh location for reading about, albeit with the tail end of resentment for WW2 (which most of his readers then wouldn't have lived through, nor would their parents have much memory of it)

now it's just hop on a plane, stay in a chain hotel, pretend you're in Any City, World and get on with living whatever poor deluded fantasy of yourself you live day to day, only in Japan; back then it was harder to know what you'd be getting into and even places which, honestly, were pretty close to home and pretty similar in terms of technology and the lived experience, seemed that much more alien and strange

but having said that no I think it's fucking embarrassing because of the way it's still written, not least because Wolverine was present for every major event in the US and Japan in all of their history, I would rather claw out Claremont's eyeballs than read any more of it whether it's his run or the modern shite

reminder that Miller designed Elektra's costume that way because he was too poor to afford his rent as well as art materials AND porn, so he just bought the stuff he needed for work and drew pages he could jerk off to

Wolverweeb feels authentic. And being hung up over dead wife and child makes way more sense than spending decades obsessing over Jean's indecisive and unfaithful ass.

yeah this is true, all white manlets crave the japan trip

I love it. It’s rarely acknowledged, but Lady Deathstroke’s father invented the adamantium bonding procedure, that’s why she hates him. He was a WW2 Kamikaze pilot who’s ship failed to detonate, was captured by the US, wrote a bestselling book, bought an island, and turned his sons into an army to fight against the country Japan was becoming. I like that his bones have history before he ever got them.

I'm a little tired of Logan in Japan, I would like to see some open kimono Laura, or Laura as a ninja,

in universe it's been what like five years?

Last I checked it was ~13 years for Spider-Man's full career. So about a decade of Wolverine obsessing over Jean?
