>This character still makes Xoomers fly into a blind rage whenever they see him even nearly 40 years later
>>
Who is this?
>>
>>152343963
Luke Skywalker.
>>
I've never seen anyone under 30 seethe about Hot Rod, if anything zoomers are the only ones who like him because of mtmte
>>
>>152343931
Transformers Deviations was kino. Treating Hot Rod like shit was justified.
>>
"Rodimus" is a pretty stupid name.
>>
>>152344428
Yet somehow it’s stuck. I mean I get it it does give off this “mature” vibe but I can’t help but think it sounds a little dirty you know
>>
>>152343931
I love this guy. Transformers 1986 movie was epic.
We should be at the point wondering who would take the Matrix after Rodimus, not keep issuing retreats of Optimus Prime.
>>
>>152343972
Speaking of (another) Luke he is basically the Hot Rod of Street Fighter, a flopped attempt to replace the face of the franchise
>>
>>152343931
The optimal choice at that time would have been upgrading Optimus into Ultra Magnus so you can retire his toy without killing the character and keeping Hot Rod as the kid appeal character
>>
>>152343931

he's certainly not popular, but 'flying into a blind rage' is an excessive exaggeration.
>>
>>152343931
Tbf, there's nothing redeeming about his personality
>>
>>152343931
"optimus" means "very good, best"

"rodimus" means "gnawing, ratlike"

fuckin ratboy here got in the walls and wouldn't leave
>>
being responsible for Prime's death made kids hate him
>>
>>152344508
does the succession go good guy-ratboy-good guy or what
>>
>>152343931
Actual Gen X here. Had his toy and he was my favorite. Seethe, bitches.
>>
>>152344944
the Hot Rod toy or the Rodimus Toy?
>>
>>152344283
xoomers as in gen x, not gen z
>>
>>152344944
>mom, I want the minivan one!
>>
>>152344955
Both.
Remember racing dinky cars down your neighbor's sloped sidewalks? Hot Rod was the fastest.
>>
>>152344944
based
>>
I'm not a huge Hot Rod fan but I'll likely pick up his SS86 figure when its out. It comes with a fishing rod!
>>
>>152345215
Ironhide was a minivan . People say Rodimus looks like a Winnebago but he doesn’t really look like any vehicle. He’s more like a Dekotora truck
>>
>>152343931
Xoomer here: I don't remember anyone complaining about him (in fact I had his toy) and no one really "cried" about Optimus dying. I remember kids thinking it was cool since it was more "serious" or "adult" that the character died
I don't doubt that kids wrote to the company complaining about Optimus's death (or whatever the creative team says) but everyone I knew thought it was the coolest fucking shit imaginable
>>
>>152345176
Ah my bad, thought OP was weird
>>
>>152343931
he was cool looking but they gave him the top rank under dubious circumstances. I like rodimus, but the more I watch old episodes of him he constantly doubts himself and whines. kind of a downer. that youtube cut of him being an imbecile also shows you he might be senile.
>>
>>152345486
Same here. Born in 78.
Spike saying “shit” and all the carnage was pure joy to watch on screen.
>>
>got his leader killed and took his place

He's just successful autobot Starscream
>>
>>152345509
The show runners attempted to make a character arc, which didn't work for 80's kids, especially when status quo had to be king.
>>
>>152345509
>but the more I watch old episodes of him he constantly doubts himself and whines. kind of a downer.
yeah he was a lot better in the movie it felt like the writers themselves were mad about him replacing Optimus

he does really look like a motor home

i cried when he died:(
>>
>>152344714
He seems to be popular. Just that obviously Ryu/Akuma/Ken are going to top forever.
>>
>>152345801
Starscream’s ghost
>ARE YOU KIDDING ME?! ALL MY PLANS AND HE DOES IT BY ACCIDENT?! AAAAAAAAAHHHHHHH!!!!!
>>
>>152344428
for you maybe
>>
>>152345509
>that youtube cut of him being an imbecile also shows you he might be senile.
Getting juiced up on matrix of leadership fried his brain.
>>
>>152343931
Quiet, Hot Rod.
>>
>>152345866
where are the bigass exausts and spoiler though?
>>
>>152345832
I don't think it's that. Season 3 was just more ambitious in general and I think they were trying to show a more flawed leader after going 50+ episode with Optimus as a perfect one.
But syndicated shows had a hard time handling serialized arcs due to the nature of production, in all likelihood.
writers were handed a bible, given a description of Rodimus as a reluctant leader, and all wrote the same general story without it building up into anything

>We should be at the point wondering who would take the Matrix after Rodimus, not keep issuing retreats of Optimus Prime.

I wish we stuck to that 90's JP Beast Wars idea of multiple convoys/Primes taking over. Then when you do see G1 Optimus, it's a big hype moment because we haven't seen countless versions of him over and over.
I saw a live Ultraman show a few months ago, and it was cool that when the original 60's Ultraman came out, it's a big hype moment with the original theme playing, the villain mocking him for being an old timer out of practice, and him just doing all the classic moves. It would be so cool to see that with Optimus.
>>
I just like Optimus better I'm sorry

nah that's horse shit.
I mean there is that now incredibly old but still rather funny Dr. Smoove video that shits all over him, but whatever. Hotrod is cool.

His toy wasn't big enough.
>>152349996
I love his OG toy helmet, reminds me of those vertical hat samurai sported. Big helmet + younger face is my ideal Rodimus combo.
>>
>>152344741
Once you know that's what the original Diaclone toy Ultra Magnus was made from was, I can see why you'd have that idea, but we'd lose Ultra Magnus as a separate character that way, and that's not good. Poor guy seems to get mistreated by modern writers even more than Hot Rod.
>>
>>152343931
>Xoomers
no one says this
>>
>>152343931
He was alright in Cyberverse. Didn't get anyone killed and even achieved something in the big war scene, I think.

>>152345486
A lot of the hype about the movie is the spectacle, with the top tier animation and soundtrack. I can't imagine anyone being hyped watching the third season.

>>152345801
And he did it by mistake!
>>
>>152344889
YOU LEAVE RATTRAP OUT OF THIS!

Wasn't Hot Rod a villain in the Earthspark finale?
>>
>>152344944
You are a faggot and an embarrassment to our generation
>>
>>152354214
Gen X is already pretty embarrassing, anon
>>
>>152350373
Is that how the toy originally would've been? It looks so much better, why did they change it? Oh wait, let me guess, cost.
I remember reading somewhere that they mixed up the Rodimus and Hotrod toys which is why the Rodimus one ended up so flimsy but that may just be a rumour.

The original Optimus was friggin gargantuan and still feels massive to this day. I never had the Hotrod and Rodimus toys but they both looked like tiny pieces of shit. Like they were scaled to look bigger than the minibots.
In fact he hadn't gotten a decent toy to this day. The Masterpiece came closest but it had manufacturing issues, packed half his car mode into a giant backpack so it only looked decent from the front, and the Rodimus part was just "put the car backwards into the winnebago".
>>
>>152354914
Hasbro hid from the toy designers that Rodimus was meant to be Hot Rod's powered up form
