Why aren't there more cartoons about luchadoras?
>>152349582It was your turn to make one, but you didn't. You really dropped the ball this time, and everyone is very disappointed at you.
>born in mexico>raised in californiawhy do gringos like him want to pretend they belong to the culture
>>152349582It's all in demographics, luchadors in general are squarely south american which immediately puts a massive constraint on any potential animated mediums depicting it. Average south american isn't coming over to the western animation industry to talk about how cool luchadors are, frankly you're gonna see a lot more white/black/asian people in animation spheres then south americans. The other issue is, luchador stuff falls under the same "meathead entertainment" umbrella that wrestling and sports attract. Majority of the modern animation scene isn't interested in "meathead" hobbies like sports and wrestling, they're a lot nerdier. You're the odd one out if you come into the scene talking about creating a meathead cartoon when the rest of the field wants to make quirky melodramas or meta vidya gaems.Another issue is nicheness, since investors/executives want guaranteed profits. Mucha Lucha and El Tigre for example got made but weren't major hits, so thats an uphill battle to convince them your luchador work will be both profitable and more assured for success then the dorky vidya gaems/melodrama slop everyone else is making.tl;dr it's niche as hell
>>152349582You do know that the creator also made El Tigre, right?
>>152349780>the rest of the field wants to make quirky melodramas or meta vidya gaems Well that just describes Glitch Productions's entire output. I didn't realize they were such an apt microcosm of the modern animation scene.
>>152349741He hasn't let go of the culture is the point.
>>152349582Does mags fuck in this?
>>152349741integration is a myth.

>>152349780Sadly, this.>The other issue is, luchador stuff falls under the same "meathead entertainment" umbrella that wrestling and sports attract. Majority of the modern animation scene isn't interested in "meathead" hobbies like sports and wrestling, they're a lot nerdier. Not trying to turn this into another east vs west debate, but would this also explain why there are so few western equivalents to Hajime no Ippo, Kinnikuman, Baki the Grappler, and Kengan Ashura? Aside from Invincible Fight Girl (which is likely dead in one season) and this>>152351604, there's been an overabundance of nerdy, slice-of-life, melodrama, and lore shows recent there are increasingly lame and boring. I wanna watch something fun and cool, not stuff like Fionna having an millennial emotional breakdown.>>152351667Based. The west desperately needs more people like him in animation and fewer showrunners and animators with generational trauma and other baggage.

>>152351886*an overabundance of nerdy, slice-of-life, melodrama, and lore shows that are increasingly lame and boring>>152351886And to add to the topic of meathead entertainment, I also noticed way fewer sports comics and shows in the west compared to manga and anime like Captain Tsubasa, Slam Dunk, The Prince of Tennis, Eyeshield 21, Inazuma Eleven, and Haikyu!. I get that your average sports fan in America prefers live sports, but that hasn't stopped live-action sports movies from being made. These are the only /co/ sports shows and movies I can think:>Win or Lose (baseball)>Spike Team (volleyball)>Baskup (basketball)>Hurricanes (soccer)>Where Huddles? (football)>Space Jam (basketball)>Space Jam: A New Legacy (basketball)>Goat (basketball)
>>152353088Me, too. It looks way more interesting and promising than a lot of the recent crap on cable and streaming apps.
