The whole thing is fascinating to me. Not the genre itself, but the women who are into it.

a recurring idea among academics who look into it is something along the lines of: in addition to being hot, the romance is also appealing because taking the woman out of the equation creates a dynamic of relative equals and also gets rid of a character performing femininity that they're supposed to relate to but don't want to.

I don’t know. It makes me wonder if Freud was right

Why dont they want to?
>>152350861
I genuinely am attracted to women who remind me of my mother all the time so he absolutely was right
>>
>>152350870
because femininity isn't always relatable

Dont men jack off to lesbian porn made specifically for men all the time? Heres the answer, next

As a straight guy who reads BL, i mostly just like the forbidden fruit aspect of it. Most of the stories that the Fujos eat up are laden with angst and guilt like its still the 90s. Guarantee if you got bubblegum pop shit where every character is a fruitcake and has their fagdial turned up to 11, they would get turned off pretty fast.

There are a lot of lesbians into yaoi.
Also weird shit like mpreg.
There’s a lot of strangeness there isn’t a good parallel for and probably has some kind of Freudian explanation
>>
>>152350947
I hate mpreg. I mean sometimes it's kind of hot seeing a baby bump, but just the logistics of where the baby comes out of rustoes my jimmies.
>>
>>152350680
at least your girlfriend doesn't write you into her yaoi lit

They like the idea of mushy romance with guys, or of course, going right to the smut and steam.

They're just bisexuals who hate 3DPD men so much they think it means they're not into them.

It’s only natural they found each other by combining their love of cast chemistry in TV and romance novels to make mpreg.

They want to be self insert as a man.
There's a reason why the joke
>FtM (Fujo to Male)
exists. It's not even a secret. Someone I know online is transmasc and he shared so many memes with me about how homestuck shipping and crossplay led them to their conclusion they were male leaning and wanted to be a gay man.
>>
>>152352382
This says more about your friend than it does about a whole group of people who like seeing boys kissing.
>>
>>152352382
That sounds like either the female equivalent of AGP, or your friend was getting dogpiled by SJWs for "being a straight woman fetishizing gay men" and pooned out to say "see! I'm a gay man too so it's not heckin problematic pls no bully"

I expect someone to say there's no female equivalent to autogynophilia, but I'm pretty sure I'm an autoandrophile. I would never poon out though. If there was a magic way to instantly be a man, sure. But the bone-destroying hormones and experimental surgery shit is nothing like that at all.

Women like yaoi because straight couples focused media is 99% by a male POV, and they are tired of seeing the girl being degraded or submissive. If there were more femdom content out there, the number of fujos would get lower. Also a lot of fujos are self-hating NLOGs who end up pooning out because they identify with the characters in the yaoi, because a male character written by a woman for other women means totes you are a heckin yaoi dood!

That's a good point. I like yaoi but my favorite straight ship dynamic is a gentleman male x a female who could snap him in half. But I just write and draw my own shit because I hate girlbosses and feminism.
>>
>>152353038
AYRT and same, anon. I love drawing and writing my shit, even if it's niche. I wish I could find more like-minded people to form a circle and produce our own content. I love when the girl is the dominant in the relationship but it's impossible to find content like that when she is not a 'hur durr girlboss yaas uwu'. Stop putting politics in my shit, just lemme goon in peace.

There's also gays into yuri. There's parallels even in the freudian stuff:
>A relationship between two "others" can be more easily idealized into a fantasy without the flaws or pain of IRL relationships
>Can appeal to taboo curiosity and feel "forbidden" while still being fluffy uwu wholesome unproblematic etc.
>"Nontraditional" relationship means (at least in the fantasy) the standard expectations & obligations vis-a-vis marriage/kids/work/chores don't apply
>Love feels "realer" when it's not an expected default and when it's between peers - having the characters be the same gender easily ticks both boxes
>Writer/director/whatever can focus on specific feeling(s) of one gender, rather than either sacrificing one to focus on another OR having to understand both men and women

Basically there's layers and angles to it, but in a romance fiction story it allows dynamics that are harder to bring across in a straight pairing. And in smut or porn it's just "twice as good/look at 'em go", typically.

You guys know there's a romantic aspect to yaoi, right? Lesbians reading yaoi aren't flicking their bean to dick on dick and are just there because they like the romantic aspect of two boyish but also sensitive creatures in love. You can think two characters would make a good couple without wanting to see their dripping freshly cummed inside assholes.
