I don't think that Jax's relationship with Pomni pre episode 6 ending was entirely one-sided in favor of Jax the entire time. Jax was clearly having an effect on Pomni going all the way back to the fifth episode, and a positive one at that. Jax helped Pomni open up and act more like her normal self. This is shown when she laughs at Jax biting his evil counterpart and Pomni quickly freezes up and stops once Ragatha takes notice of her doing so. I think Pomni has a lot of self image issues, especially in relation to her being infantilized and treated like she can't think of herself. In episode 6, Pomni opens up a lot more and seems to be having a lot of fun being her normal self and doesn't seem to be too concerned about how others might perceive her. Jax helped Pomni feel more confident in the circus, and I think that's part of why she cares for him so much.

I think the group would have an easier time staying sane and living in the digital circus if they knew even some cursory philosophy. I'm sure they could take some comfort in the argument that if they can reason, feel and have a subjective experience, and they do exist in some form. Intellectual activities in general could give them purpose.
