Isn’t this the third or fourth number one that McKay has had to deal with during his time with the character?

Hey guys, I'm a big fan of the Moench and Lemire runs. I recall picking up Mackay's run of this book when it was first starting out, and I recall liking his writing, but ultimately dropped it because I didn't like how Marvel was treating all the egyptian mysticism as factually real and stuff. Is it still like that? Should I try picking the book back up anyways?
>>
>>152459596
No he's fine, just without legs and not wanting anything to do with Marc.

>>152459709
Yes, the egyptian stuff is 100% real and aknowledged by everyone
>>
>>152459551
Dang Marc, you're going to put someone's eyes out with those.
>>
>>152459514
Isn't Zodiac his ex-sidekick?
>>
>>152459389
I don't really get why this was renumbered outside of a cynical sales boost attempt
>>
>>152459426
So this is Mackay doing his first proper Spook/CIA plotline in this run?
Feel most writer ignoire the fact that Marc worked for Mossad and the CIA, and Moanch did a lot of weird conspiracy and spy storylines in his run.
>>
>>152459441
Agence Byantine is a pull but I guess it makes sense with the Francophone connection Moon Knight has
>>
>>152459548
With the others, you can at least argue that there was some form of major status quo change, like Marc's death and then getting reborn in Blood Hunt,
here they really isn't anything to support the new number one
>>
>>152459898
no that's Midnight
>>
>>152459709
yeah Marvel gave up on the ambiguity after Aaron's Avengers arc, where Khonshu takes over the world(it's as bad as it sounds)
>>
>>152459898
Zodiac is a villain intro'd in Dark Reign as a classic appreciator of Americana and a hatred of order that showed up at the start of Mackay's run pretending to be a nervous local kid so he could fuck with Marc.
>>
>>152459998
I honestly feel bad for the guy I feel like he has to be at 50 issues by now

>>
>>152461199
I think last time he showed up was in the run between Lemire and McKay. The one nobody wants to remember. In that run Bushman's trauma with Marc had given him an eating disorder and turned him fat. He was kind of a washed up loser, basically.

MacKay's run, desu, is what I always wanted out of the character. It feels like a very natural progression of Ellis' retooling. I'm also a total whore for egyptian mysticism, so there's that

I liked Moench's run, but a lot of it felt like wasted potential. There's so much left on the floor, ESPECIALLY the Egyptian Mysticism stuff! Like what was the point of dropping all the really cool stuff with him being half werewolf after being bitten/clawed at by Jack Russel and migrating over to something FAR COOLER with him being an avatar for an Egyptian god of the night if you're never going to use any of it?!

sales must have been near cancellation but they actually realized McKay's deserves to keep going.

its a cynical attempt to goose the sales but it doesn't matter because it will all be fine once the whole run is collected as "moon knight by jed mckay" tpbs

I was honestly VERY surprised at how quickly the omni went out of print. Was actually planning on getting it at some point

McKay's Moon Knight might not be everyone's cup of tea, but damn if it isn't enjoyable

So Moon Knight is 5 trades, Vengeance of Moon Knight 2 trades, Fist of Konshu 3 trades with the last one coming out in April. How many issues/trades do you think Marc Spector will last until another name change or cancellation?
>>
>>152460640
I need that Momoko
>>
I'm liking this a lot but from what the thread is saying, I'm guessing I should be looking into MacKay's earlier stuff first before going on? I've got some weekends open to knock a few trades out
>>
>>152464871
12-16 issues as is usual for current Marvel.
>>
>>152465671
Yeah it's all one story starting with the fallout of Jason Aaron's shitty Avengers book (he had Moon Knight fight the Avengers and as part of his punishment Mackay added a therapist as part of the cast) and each #1 is a change in Marc's personal status.

>>152459850
>>152460033
Dangit, oh well. What would you guys say the strengths of Mackay's run are? I like MK best when it's exploring themes of paranoia, or Marc's psyche, so this issue caught my eye for a bit.
>>152462234
Yeah, I hate that and will never forgive the 2006 run for destroying 100% of his supporting cast and rogue's gallery. So much just thrown out for utterly no reason, except to have cheap melodrama in the moment (including making Frenchie gay, when he had a wife).

>>152462976
>MacKay's run, desu, is what I always wanted out of the character. It feels like a very natural progression of Ellis' retooling.
Could u elaborate on that? I'm curious how ya view it.
And I get where you're coming from if you were mostly interested in an Egyptian-themed superhero in the first place, yeah. I really liked Lemire's run for how it explored the implications of Marc's relationship with faith, but I was always more interested in just the "crime noir with a paranoia/conspiracy angle" that Moench did so well, and exploring his relationship with his supporting cast from there more (which Lemire touched upon, but god I wish there was more of that). Mainly I just want more Crawley honestly. He was always a gem.
>>
how to start reading moon knight?
>>
>>152469385
>>
>>152469385
There's very few proper good runs. Read the original run by Moench, and his two late-90s minis (just get scans of the latter, not modern digital versions, they fucked up the colors).
From there, it's a lotta garbage til the 2010s - Ellis had a very short run (like, single digits) which can be hit or miss to some, but plenty worth trying at its length. After that the must-read is Lemire's run, huge love letter to the character and a fun read.
Then we had a lame status quo shift with him, and Mackay's current run is building as good a story he can from that. Plenty of anons here will attest it's plenty worth a try, just start from the beginning of his run despite all the title relaunches lol.
>>
>>152469425
>wo late-90s minis (just get scans of the latter, not modern digital versions, they fucked up the colors).
damn really?
I really like those minis
>>
Unless my math is off this is technically issue 55 of the whole MacKay run.
I would be interested to hear what someone who has never read any of this series would think of this issue. It's kind of cheating being a new #1, but I would think this would seem like a good enough mystery to anyone who doesn't already know the details.

My only experience with Moon Knight was the weird Disney show that made me really curious about the comics and cool Egyptian god stuff. All I knew was that the comics had him more like a violent vigilante with schizophrenia who is sponsored by some god.
From that bit of knowledge, this #1 seemed really cool. You see the buildup, you see the mental aspect at play, you get the promise of some fights in the next issue, I think it's well done. The mystery aspect is compromised from me only knowing the bits the comic shares and what people have said here, but it does make me wanna know what the deal is and how Marc got into this situation in the first place.
>>
>>152470093
Does it matter? I feel as though Moonknight is the sort of character you can be dropped into the narrative at any point and the end result would be more or less the same. In a good way.
>>
>>152470093
I'm not quite at that level since I've read an issue or two of MacKay's previous run, but still. I mostly found it an interesting "where's this coming from? Who're these guys and how did they capture him? Who's this other guy helping him?". The pacing wasn't bad, I got enough delivered on lingering on how he's being treated while already getting the element of how it seems to not actually be working, and then the hook of this random character I've never seen but who looks cool breaking through the gaslighting
