And yet it sells better than the mainline books??? WTF
>>
>>152499378
>mainline: has cool and innovative NEW stories about Paul Rabin is trying to molest Eddie Brock’s son

How come Amazing kept on losing even though they had an industry powerhouse like Paul on their side???

>check top selling comics for 2025

Holy mother of flops

Not even Hickman and his new Ultimate verse could stop this shit from flopping, kek

it's genuinely impressive how not even the biggest name in all of marvel and not even the hype of the rebooted ultimate can get people to give a shit about ultimate spidey

Nigga there were eight Marvel books at best in the top 50, and the only other Spider-Man book was the number 1 relaunch of ASM. USM is still outselling that shit.
>>
>>152499636
And the pedophiles! The pedophiles seem to hate it the most.
>>
>>152499640
you are coping hard. this shit had insane hype in 2024 and everyone was giving it the benefit of the doubt because it's Hickman. once everyone realized it wasn't very good that shit dropped like a rock in sales.

fucking no one talking about it on LoCG either
>>
>>152499675
Facts don’t care about feelings. Marvel killed its better selling Spider-Man book to prop up a failing one.
>>
>>152499698
>Facts don’t care about feelings
Which is why ultimate is flopping hard
>>
People only really liked it because it was not mainline. It began with a bunch of hype. Then Ultimate universe lost momentum and went no where. Hickman is also cursed with Marvel constantly cutting his plans short. Editorial literally heard mainline creators complain and shot it in the foot.
>>
>>152499746
It’s literally ending.
>A durr how come it’s not getting da big num-nums
Because it’s ending. They killed it because the old guard felt bitter and a little territorial.
>>
>>152499835
Mentally ill cope. This shit flopped throughout the entirety of 2025, nowhere near its end.
>>
>>152499787
Nick Lowe and Tom Brevoort were always bitter about it and always bitter that it outsold the mainline. They’ll never forgive the fandom for making them look stupid. If it sold well enough, but not as well as ASM, they wouldn’t have killed it out of spite.
>>
>books entire selling point is that peter is married to mj
>boring as fuck

wow its a surprise the book didnt succeed it had all the markers of a really great comic series
>>
>>152499869
>i-i-it was a conspiracy! They killed it!
Fucking kek
>>
>>152499866
All of Marvel flopped in 2025. Ultimate, and ASM, were the only things doing any numbers.

Marvel shot themselves in the foot because Quesada’s Death Cult got territorial. Not they got nothing to compete with Absolute. They murdered their own momentum because they didn’t like being proved wrong in their precious ICV2 sales charts.
>>
>>152499885
How’s ASM been charting? There was the big Issue 1 relaunch and then… fuck all! And it’s staying that way. Sales are going to spike at a thousand… and then after that dwindle to fucking nothing because it’s the jumping off point.
>>
>>152499905
You're flip flopping your narrative. You claimed it flopped because it was ending, when that isn't remotely true. No you're claiming it's because marvel flopped, yeah because dogshit like ultimate spiderman wasn't moving books lol
>>
>>152499878
How do you develop Peter without retreading old ground?
I mean I have ideas but the premise of Ultimate just needed to display this development through using the kids more which is kind of the biggest wasted opportunity.
>>
>>152499866
>The Marvel Intern is back and seething because the sales brought in by Ultimate aren't transferring over to the shit mainline comics.
DCChads won, Intern.
>>
>>152499933
Nothing was moving books. Note, no X-Men books into the top 50, despite Tom Brevoort being adamant that he’s some kind of fucking genius. Face it man. Even if you want to screech that Ultimate wasn’t going well enough… the mainline was still clearly doing worse.
>>
>>152499965
>Nothing was moving books
Yeah because Ultimate Spidey is dogshit.
>>
>>152499975
>Amazing Spidey is dogshit.
Fixed it for you.
>>
>>152499975
Then mainline X-Men was clearly BIGGER dogshit, and USM was the least dogshit thing they had.
>>
>>152499286
I'm so glad this shit crashed and burned kek
>>
>>152499949
>How do you develop Peter without retreading old ground?
considering this Peter went through his entire young adult life as a normal human in a world of super heroes and was given powers in a mystical genie-in-a-bottle-esque situation where he's told his life is greater than it actually is, you could do a lot without retreading old ground or touching stories that have been told already using the concept of a powerless or adult peter parker.
you mean to tell me this guy felt as if he was meant for something greater his entire life and then one day a super genius billionaire playboy appears out of nowhere and confirms his suspicions and gives him super powers and peter is just like .... "yeah this is just another day!"
really?
>>
>>152499994

>>
>>152499885
I'd believe it. Tom Brevoort is one of the proponents and architects of "anger sells" mentality at Marvel. Aka, pissing off fans means we are doing something right. Something Brevoort said himself.
>>
>>152500038
Giving X-Men are falling apart and not a single X-book made into the top 50… im starting to think Tom might just be an arrogant retard.
>>
>>152500038
Every low IQ retard turns to cope like that when they get BTFO like ultimate spiderfags were so I'm sure you believe it
>>
>>152500080
His "anger sells" comments were more about the 00s period primarily. The 10s were the complete refutation of his ideas as people became utterly burnt out proving his comments about anger were wrong.
>>
>>152500114
And yet they still do it, it's almost like Marvel is ran by petty, fat retards.
>>
>>152500100
It's not low IQ cope to say that most creators are egotistical neurotic viper's who constantly attack and belittle each other over very little. His anger sells comments were public.

I don't have a dog in this fight and I don't really care about Ultimate Spider-Man, I just think the other anons comments about Tom are very accurate to how he has behaved.

This is the same Marvel that nuked Hickman's plan for Krakoa because the other writers staged a coup and were eating well and the editorial facilitated this process.
>>

Hickman’s plans always get cut short because they’re so fucking long
The idiot has had like 15+ years to adapt to most runs barely ever hitting double digits yet he insists on making 30+ issue arcs that all interconnect and lead up to some pretentious pile of shit that means nothing
At least he’s an okay dude, can’t really hate him for who he is. Just his awful writing

Ah yeah I agree. Nice quints.
I just wanted to play devil's advocate because I just wanted better supporting cast material than the shit with Black Cat. But Peter is lacking too.
Man...entertainment now has to contend with so much shit that is way better and densely packed while now everyone is being forced or has been brainwashed to think decompressed shit is good. I mean old shit can drag too but I dunno, out of the few overstimulating messes of shows/movies, there are a whole bunch of dragging, plodding garbage shows that outnumber them. Back to old media I go.

I just refuse to buy comics that give the characters soibeards. Refused to buy Adams’ aquaman for it and I don’t buy any FF where reed has a beard (or Johnny a gaystache).

I also think it was just too different. People want ASM if OMD never happened. Not shit like uncle Ben being alive. Literally nobody wants that.
>>
>>152499286
It's because everyone is a cardboard cutout of themselves except Harry and possibly Benom. It's just so boring and there's no consquences to what Peter does, just moving around. >They murdered their own momentum because they didn’t like being proved wrong in their precious ICV2 sales charts.

It's funny because if you look at the other ICV2 charts like the graphic novel sales for comic shops and the partial Bookscan lists they have, Hickman's USM is a consistent seller for them since last year

In the comic shops that use Comics Hub the top performing Marvel TPBs/GNs of 2025 were:

Ultimate Spider-Man (2024) vol 1
Ultimate Spider-Man (2024) vol 2
Marvel Premier Collection Vol. 1 Daredevil Born Again
Ultimates (2024) vol 1
It's Jeff: Jeff-Verse
Ultimate Spider-Man (2024) vol 3
Ultimate X-Men (2024) vol 1
Secret Wars (Hickman version)
Marvel Premier Collection Vol. 3 Fantastic Four Solve Everything
Books of Doom vol 1
Aliens vs Avengers
Ultimate Invasion
Ultimate Wolverine vol 1
Predator vs Wolverine
Marvel Premier Collection Vol. 2 Captain America: The Winter Soldier
Marvel Premier Collection Vol. 4 Civil War
Uncanny X-Men: Red Wave (start of Gail Simone's run)
Predator vs Spider-Man
Ultimate Black Panther vol 1

Some will try to point out that ICV2 only tallies retailers that use ComicHub, which is true. But ICV2 also listed the top 20 selling superhero books of 2025 based on the 2025 Bookscan sales list; Bookscan as you know covers the vast majority of bookstores and places that aren't comic shops

The top 20 superhero books were:
TMNT: The Last Ronin HC
Absolute Batman vol 1
All Star Superman (DC Compact edition)
Daredevil: Born Again (Marvel Premier edition)
Batman: Hush (DC Compact)
Ultimate Spider-Man (2025) vol 1
Batman: Court of Owls (DC Compact)
TMNT: The Last Ronin II
Batman: Year One
Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow
Absolute Superman vol 1
Absolute Wonder Woman vol 1
Watchmen (DC Compact)
Captain America: The Winter Soldier (Marvel Premier)
Batman: The Killing Joke
TMNT Lost Ronin: Lost Years
Watchmen
Fantastic Four: Solve Everything (Marvel Premier)

Its less that USM isnt a sucess, and more that absolute is too big a sucess, and not announcing its ending gave it the market.
>>
>>152505250
Cute!!
>>
Now that the run's almost over the marriage deadenders finally caught on that Hickman never had any intention of writing a "family man Peter Parker" stories. Just depressing politics and a guy who rarely actually wins and feels like a supporting character in his own book.
>>
For me it was the horrible pacing choice of doing one issue = one in-story month that doomed USM, It made it so everything had to happen super fast and huge chunks of time and stories were just skipped.
People wanted weekly / bi weekly / monthly adventures of Peter and family doing superhero shit, not for it to all be glossed over to get to the ~real story~. Though this is also an issue I had with the recent Absolute Wonder Woman where they just glossed over like a bunch of villains she fought and plotlines she had that we're obviously supposed to already know about from the good old days that I guess everyone has read already?

USM was like that but non-stop.
>>
>>152500080
He was always a retard cause anger sells might give a quick boost but it fizzles out quickly
>>
>>152504385
>USM is the only recent Marvel book to make the top 20
The first mistake was the real-time month gimmick, the second mistake was canceling the only Marvel comics anyone was buying.
>>
>>152506818
Hickman and Momoko were done and the follow-up pitches were apparently incredibly disappointing. It'd just be a repeat of the post-Ultimatum Ultimate books.
>>
It's doing so bad that..it's still selling well
https://bleedingcool.com/comics/absolute-batman-ultimate-spider-man-most-anticipated-titles-this-week/
>>
>>152506933
Disappointing pitches hasn't stopped Marvel from publishing slop before.
>>
>>152507052
Given that this is an AU and they've been in this situation before, it's far easier to pull the plug.
>>
>>152499286
The "One issue = One Month" format doesn't work. It gives characters no time to breath, every issue's individual story feels incredibly rushed, and there's too much off-panel progression happening.
>>
>>152505622
>only trade that sells
And it's sales year over year have collapsed. It isn't selling anywhere near what it was selling in 2024. Actually good titles like Absolute DC keep getting more popular every month.

Your brain is truly rotted and full of diarrhea to somehow twist a massive decrease in sales = alshually usm won
>>
>>152507366
It won over the rest of Marvel. Which is the thing that the Marvel interns really don't want pointed out.
>>
>>152499286
Nothing short of ignoring and not reprinting the last thirty years of Spider-Man comics can gain the favor of fans and we need at least a decade to forget about the last six shitty Spider-Man films
>>
>>152499286
It's as milquetoast as it gets. Superhero comics should be exciting.

>Except he isnt Spiderman
>Except he is again
As someone who doesnt read much superhero comics why should i care about any of this?
Why should i invest time and effort into a story that just meanders aimlessy into around?
I love the Sam Raimi Spiderman Movies and i read a bunch of other comics but whenever i try to get into Superhero stuff i always lose my interest
They introduce some brand new crazy status quo shift like Doc Ock dying of cancer and stealing peters body but it always ends the same
Nothing ever happens every change is reversed
The only thing that does stay consistent is that new browns are introduced to replace the old characters
>>
>>152509086
The end of the original Ultimate universe(1610) has Peter alive again and with the Ultimates but somehow the heroes are gone
Cates, the writer that originally intended to do something with his idea went into a coma and couldn't follow up on his plans so Hickman made a new Ultimates universe(6160)
Basically you're conflating 2 different universes on the assumption they are the same based on naming convention
>>
>>152509086
You gotta stop stressing about "muh continuity" and focus on individual story arcs, a Raimi Spider-Man movie would be around a 12 issue run for instance. These titles change authors, artists, and such often enough that there's no point in reading 1000 issues back-to-back like it's One Piece, the shared universe just gives an author a bigger toy box to play with.
>>
>>152499286
Turns out people only read Spider-Man for the misery porn and constant costume changes.
>>
>>152499286
People DID buy it.

Also they delayed the last two issues, of which only one has yet to come out still and Ultimate Endgame #1 spoiled the ending anyway and the real ending is going to be a one off epilogue to Endgame.
>>
>>152509639
A thing that Marvel editors are well aware of. Only self-inserters think otherwise.
>>
>>152509254
>You gotta stop stressing about "muh continuity" and focus on individual story arcs
its just hard to care about any one arc no matter how good it is if they reverse everything that just happend
Also having a bunch of different writers and artist come in every few times just makes the characters more bland and shizophrenic
The characters are all reduced to their most superficial characteristics with no real depth to them because the next writers comes in later and undoes all the characters growth

Ultimates is just a big NOTHING. It didn't give writers enough creative freedom to get weird with the material like DC's Absolute line. Spidey was just "here's a concept we're not going to flesh out because its told in real time".

They insist the creators should matter and not the characters/story but don't get that it's because of the characters/story that the reader also cares about the creators

Morons insisting on dismissing the complaints as just "muh continuity" also start going "Why aren't people getting into comics?!"

>You gotta stop stressing about "muh continuity"
Comics are a balancing act: continuity shouldn't be a straitjacket, so tight that nothing could happen but neither should it be so loose that nothing feels like it matters.

I definitely think that old audience were more accepting of one and done storytelling because that is how most media was. Nowadays big overarching plots and fear of missing out anxiety is used to make people feel like their media they watch needs to greatly build and intently matter; so much so that they can't just enjoy a simple adventure.

Comics now often fundamentally fail because of structure. Every new creative team wants to undo things, big huge calamitous changes that make it hard to care. Who cares if someone makes a great character when someone else will brutally kill them off? Yes, comics are by many creators but the illusion that it's all one story used to sustain it more. Now each creative team is so extremely different that it has harmed the creative ideas people make. The multiplication effect of bigger, crazier changes makes it harder for people to enjoy a simple story or good character arc. There is a lot of entrenched problems and the "don't stress" attitude doesn't really change these issues.

it's been dropping slowly, but since they don't put out unit sales any more, it's hard to say if how much it dropped or if it just got bumped by #1s and one shots. in september, #11 was the 5th bestseller despite being $8 and #12 was 14th at $5, but by december it had dropped to 18 and 26, but there was 5 one-shots ahead of it, so it's unit sales might not have moved that much.

at the end of the day you still gotta have spider-man do spider-man stuff in your spider-man book and nu-USM was boring because it was just a slice of life family drama with spider-man stuff happening in the background when it should've been the other way around.

if i wanted to read this kinda thing i'd rather read wayne family adventures or re-read rebirth-era superman.

NTA but fuck this noise. i'm so sick of crossovers and i want spider-man in his own universe at this point.

it's been 17 years since we've had a TV show (and 12 years since we had a movie) where spider-man wasn't part of some team, has sugar daddies or a bunch of other spider people and as a result spider-man gotten to the same levels of convoluted bullshit of x-men.

it’s kind of funny how little effort the spider-family has. Where did Miles’ powers and pre-wakandan gear come from? Who cares. Gwen and her father abandoned their reality to slum it up in 616? Who gives a shit, she has a black boyfriend. Silk is “The Bride”, the true chosen one spider totem? How about she joins Gwen’s band. Also all of them need training by Norman Osborn for that sweet sweet synergy dough

The book got hamstrung hard by the real time gimmick. Genuinely one of the biggest blunders of all time. Completely skipped over Peter becoming Spider-Man and actively stopping crimes, immediate and prospective fan favorites like Ultimate Shocker lost all potential for proper screen time, they had to be quickly jetisoned out of the Ultimate Sandman plot to keep up with the time scale, and stories like Ultimate Kraven just kinda got really awkward due to the timeframe of things. Then the latter half clearly suffered because oop we can't do anything of consequence because we have Ultimate Incursion and Ultimate Endgame coming up.
