Imagine getting to take over a nationally syndicated comic that's been running in some manner for 100 years and making this self-indulgent tripe

Nancy is worthless without Bushmiller or Stanley.
>>
>>152511022
Bushmiller was just as much self-centred wank, except also sexy.
Mark Trails is how bad it can get.
>>
>>152508346
The fact that she got away with the smoking proves to me that literally no one reads this, even the editor.
>>
>>152509390
milk.
>>
>>152508346
I like that she has Nancy framed.
it's a sunday strip anyway.
>>
>>152511673
Stupid fuck.
>>
>>152508346

These new authors always turn out the same: they take over a legacy strip full of confidence that they're going to do something new and exciting with it, quickly burn through their buffer, realise that they're now committed to producing a new strip with a new joke, every day, forever and they burn out.
>>
Everyone talks about your Bushmillers, your Gilchrists, your Jaimes, but what was the Mark Lasky/Jerry Scott era like?
>>
>>152515652
Jerry Scott's is not bad. It's not very Nancy-ish, and he drew it more in his style, so it's odd as it looks like Zits and Baby Blues.
But, it's okay. It's pretty different, but he's a solid cartoonist.
Lasky I don't know much about. He didn't do it long, as he died of cancer soon after taking over.
>>
>>152509042
You don't get it. It's supposed to be SELF-DEPRECATING humour, the FUNNIEST style of humour!
>>
STILL better than the previous artist, whoever that was.
>>
>>152508346
Who's that? Where's Nancy?

>Pee Pee Poo Poo number 69 just won an Ignatz Award. It was nominated for a few categories, so I got to hear the announcers say “pee pee poo poo” over and over and over, and I loved it. I titled it that way just to hear people say the name. That’s very funny to me.
I didn't really know a whole lot about Caroline, but she seems kinda based.
>>
>>152518043
How is that based?

I went to read through all the new strips this author has made for the past two months, and she's an underground comix artist who's going for a "bad girl" Nancy. This recent Sunday strip wasn't the first time she's inserted herself into the comic, but all the times prior to this were meta gags, like Nancy jumping out of a cake on her birthday when she wants to take a break, or a two-week arc of Nancy & Sluggo going on a day-trip to Philly capped off with them explaining they only did it because the author was guilt-tripping a local paper into picking up the comic.
It's not the same dry and semi-absurdist humor employed by Olivia, and it's not quite the youthful highjinks of late Bushmiller. She reminds me of Lucy Van Pelt in some ways, and not just because the very second strip was a meta-gag about her pulling the football trick on Sluggo. Still, I prefer this to the sanitation of Gilchrist or the Little Lulu reskin of Stanley.
>>
>>152508346
Is this a different author from the sluggo is lit one?
>>
>>152519884
No, this is the new person who inherited the strip from that one.

Yes.
>>152519856
There are some moments where the excesses of modernity come across with less grace than when Olivia would integrate them. It's one thing to have a comic where Sluggo says "You can't just assume everyone who disagrees with you is a bot" and we cut to Nancy leering at him suspiciously with a robot Sluggo in a thought bubble, and another thing entirely for her to be upset he's not giving him attention due to being so focused on his smartphone that she airdrops him a selfie. On the other hand, as an comix artist Caroline still has an understanding of what a prominent figure in the pop culture landscape Nancy is, dedicating three days to the famous Three Rocks, so famous that Bill Griffith of Zippy the Pinhead fame used them for the title of his Ernie Bushmiller biography.

>Is this a different author?
>No
>It's a different author
So when you say "no" you actually mean "yes"?
>>
>>152519856
This is good. The second and third strips made me smile.

I agree, this "no meaning yes" thing has always stymied me. But Caroline Cash is indeed a different person than Olivia Jaimes.
>>152519968
Reading through this biographical comic book, I'm seeing much of the same logical conventions Bushmiller would follow in Caroline's gags, but run through the meta-filter of Nancy's ubiquity. For Bushmiller, he'd come up with something about a giant water pistol or a meat-grinder (the kind you clamp to a table) and the rest of the joke would form around it like a pearl forming around grit in a clamshell.
But for Caroline, Nancy has become the subject matter for the gag. It borders on modern Heathcliff for the absurdity of situations in which Nancy's brillo-pad hair and wicked smirk suddenly appears.
>>152520069
Yeah, it's really nowhere near as terrible as OP makes it out to be.
>>
>>152519930

I'm 3 of the 4 posts you replied to (not the second one, that was someone else) and I specifically chose ones that I believed best displayed how the philosophy of the new artist accurately reflected the values of Bushmiller & Olivia while still providing a different flavor to things. There are worse comics by her (even worse than the one where Nancy pops out of the cake), but you saying they're all dogshit makes me think you just don't like Nancy at all. Especially the dog and bubblegum comics, those are standard Bushmiller gags.
>>
>>152508346
This strip is lame, but the rest of her run seems alright so far. Helps that the art is much better than Jaimes'.
I'd still take both runs over Gilchrist's. Imagine taking one of the best gag comics from the 30s/40s and turning it into a sappy, wholesome, boomer nostalgia comic. Disgusting.
>>
>>152522706
You don't like Bushmiller if you think these anywhere near as good.
>>
>>152524431
Both have their merits, even if Bushmiller's work is objectively superior. You can't tell me he wouldn't use the lower comic in this pic had he been alive for that phrase to come into common parlance.

The bar for comic strips nowadays is really low. If you want to see bad look at the absolute vomit that is Gil Thorp nowadays. Schizo writing and the most putrid art I've ever seen.
>>
>>152511965
I would bet most syndication editors don't actually read what they're publishing. It's the only way to explain stuff like the last 10+ years of Tom Batiuk's work.
>>
>>152519968
>Caroline still has an understanding of what a prominent figure in the pop culture landscape Nancy is
Nancy has no prominence in the pop culture landscape whatsoever.

>>152515119
I hope this comes around to making serials popular again.

Garbage begets garbage. If I actually cared about Nancy, I guess I'd be upset, but whatever.
>>
>>152519453
Because it's exactly the kind of thing that would have amused 4chan 15 or so years ago, back when we had fun.
>>
>>152511022
Olivia Jaimes had the juice and even let it go when she lost it. That's something.
>>
>>152519856
2 is OK, 3 is ruined by the heart bubble but remove it and it's pass in a pass/fail scoring. If she keeps zooming in to keep from having to draw, I'm going to spit.
>>
I haven't been too into Cash's Nancy run but I really, really like the idea of Ernie Bushmiller appearing in her dreams and just enjoying the shit out of pedestrian modern stuff.

>>152508346
her very 1st Nancy comic written during the guest run while Olivia Jaimes was on break

You remind me of the people who shill for the new FOP series. It is a complete betrayal of everything that made the original good. Both the new FOP and this Nancy revival are skin suits for these talentless hack faggots to get their feet in the door. Yet people like you insist there's some novelty to this. Your insistence that there is leads to the overall decline in standards afflicting society. (you) are the problem.
