>>152529358What's so funny?
>>152529340Oh nice I didn't know they made a comic based on the cartoon pilot
>>152529340>furfaggotryNope.
>>152529340NoI bought itI ended up giving it to my niece for Christmas
>>152529340A cartoon for this has been long overdue for the 2010s.
>>152529340been on break for over 5 years
>>152529340It'll update any day now, right guys?
>>152532239Haha dream on. The next update we will get will probably be in the 2030s.
>>152529340It's shit and will never be finished.
>>152531067Is your niece old enough to read it? It gets pretty violent at points
>>152532239Sooner or later I'm sure!
>>152535817She's going to be 15 soon
>>152529340These three criminals are hot and deserve to be dicked down
>>152529340> 6 years and still no updatewhats even the point? they're gonna spend the next like 5-10 years pissing away money on the show whether it actually comes out or not, so the comic will remain abandoned.
>>152535941Good enough
>>152529340These three are just Blitzo, Moxxie and Millie.
>>152529340No I haven't read it yet
>>152529340>20 years pass>comic only gets 2.5 volumes>the story has just barely startedYaaaay... Look, even Miura managed to release 21 volumes of Berserk during the last 20 years of his life. Lackadaisy's doomed.
>>152529340I read it since 2007.
>>152537981giggity
>>152529340Did not care for the pilot. It was theater kid slop.
>>152538994Its because the creator always wanted the animated series. It's what their intended version of the comic is to be. Eventually she put the brakes on making it because she kept exploring her options and the comic was put on maintenance mode with Asks and little joke comics being the only updates you could ask for while she kept trying to make a cartoon appear. It finally happened so all that hard work paid off I guess. It's just a shame that it looks so damn generic when the comic itself really oozed style.
>>152539208Lol were you expecting anything different?
>>152539208The shorts were much better produced, I think they learned a lot of lessons from the pilothttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GqkUy8M-GfQ
>>152539224That's... pretty disrespectful to the medium of comics, to be honest. At least when Miyazaki was told to make a manga first before getting his Nausicaa movie greenlit, he didn't half-ass it. Because that would've been disrespectful to the medium of manga. Also, damn, young Miyazaki looks like a stereotypical racist cartoon of a Japanese person.
>>152539189That's almost 20 years, anon
Yall really want a spoiler (not so spoiler)Check out lackadaisy look see in the comics (or was it) idk yall just checkIk its been like years since the pilot but animation takes time

>>152529340>Have any of you read the lackadaisy comici read it a long time ago. i dont remember much of it.It's a pretty famous comic, so a lot of people on /co/ will have read it.
Yes. The main characters are so annoying. The girls are marysues.
>>152529340Of course not!
>>152529340it is indeed
>>152544611You sound like a miserable individual.
>>152540571I was very harsh and cynical about the pilot, but this looks really good for what it is. I'd rather she finished the comic first though, it's hard to trust someone to commit to such a huge project when they don't even commit to the ones they made on their own time.
>>152544611You're not wrong that some of the characters are annoying when they stick around for too long. I find a couple of the voices to be rather grating and the dialogue can feel like it was written by someone who thought they were more cleaver than they actually are. That being said, if they keep it grounded and don't ham it up when it's not called for, I think that this could be a strong story. The story from what I've seen already respects the audience more than almost any animated series made in the last decade or so, it really just needs to play it straight and don't get too self-aware or lolsorandumb
I like it a lot more than the cartoon, honestly.
>>152532239
>>152538011People actually listen to and like Blitzo. Not because he earns it in any way, but because Vivzie has designed his universe to bend over backwards to put him on top over and over again.Rocky is more like what Blitzo could be if the world actually gave him what he deserves. Which is why Rocky is a homeless bum who is one strike away from losing everything, for like third or fourth time in his life.
>>152542910Bro what are you on.
>>152529340i dont trust you
>>152538011And those characters are just Danny and SawyerThe more you note modern indie animation is largely taking off Cats Don’t Dance the more it all connects
>>152549249>And those characters are just Danny and SawyerI can sort of see that in the latter two, but not Blitzo.
>>152529340A nice short read, very nice art. Kinda sad the artist has spent most of her life on it at this point and it's still rather short, but it does look phenomenal.
>>152549649>A nice short read Is it really? Been looking forward to the cartoon, but I was always hesitant to get into the Lackadaisy comics 'cause I heard it'd been running for a decade+ and assumed it was long as hell
>>152550354Old or new its worth to try and readI mean the comics hasnt updated (or added a new comic page) in like 3 or 2 years
do you think when miura and then toriyama died tracy felt a shiver creep up her spine?
>>152549649How the fuck is it a nice read if it just comes to a dead stop out of nowhere in volume 3? The story never really gets off the ground, let alone ever coming anywhere near a country mile of a proper conclusion, and the thing's been on indefinite hiatus for almost 6 years. What is the comic even about besides the misadventures of a bunch of bootlegging cats? What is the main conflict, what is the main arc/challenge/goal the protagonist is supposed to achieve? Who even is the proper protagonist of the story? Beautiful art but the writing is just a vague meandering mess, it's like Tracy started with a story about bunch of bootlegging cat people in the prohibition era and never went anywhere else with the concept. It suffers from the exact same problem the pilot has, events transpire, characters talk, things happen, but the story never feels like it's going anywhere because it has never made an effort to point towards even a vague finish line in the first place.
>>152551352It ends with a cliffhangerI will say that the comics will continue after gta 6 (which is never) but hey we still have the animated series (which will also never come)So what nowWhat to watch or to readAny recommendations

This looks like it's going to be amazing. I hope they fix some of the janky wide crowd shots, but the character animation looks incredible. I can't stop listening to this song even though I'm getting kind of annoyed by it. https://youtu.be/BHq4ppmUPsA
>>152552095>>152552172It's not funded by Glitch. It's "presented by" them. Glitch has a ton of network connections now as well as manufacturing partners, etc. From what I've gathered, "presenting" a show seems to mean that they'll help broker connections between specific indie shows and potential investors (which typically means networks or streamers). They also give them access to their merch production/sales/distribution pipeline which I'm assuming they take a cut from, but the actual money for production doesn't come from Glitch's own coffers (unlike shows "produced by" Glitch like Murder Drones, TADC, Gaslight District, and KoG).
>>152550354>assumed it was long as hellIt's not that long, but each page apparently takes ages to produce. If you check out any of the art (especially the later stuff), you can totally see why. Tracy seems to have an autistic amount of attention to detail. She's also commented in interviews about how she does everything on her own, and that her process is so convoluted she wouldn't really be able to hire someone else to help.

>>152568990>I am in highschool when this crap started.saar, how old are you being now?
>>152551352>What is the comic even about besides the misadventures of a bunch of bootlegging cats?Congrats, you've seen through the illusion. Lackadaisy is just an excuse for the author to squee over her characters. It was born from a particular Tumblr fan fiction mindset of loving favorite characters interact with each other, with real plot and story secondary. It reads like fan fiction, except all the characters are original. The author has a toybox of beloved dolls and wants to play with them and bounce them off each other but doesn't have a coherent story to tell, it's just playing. Sorry, it's hard to articulate. I guess I'll just say I was completely unsurprised when the comic stopped pretending to have a narrative and just devolved into a series of character spotlight one shot pages before stopping entirely when she got the chance to play with her toys in a new medium
I remember seeing a fan comic where Ivy is trying to convince Freckle to let her give him a blowjob. But cats' penises are barbed and cats' tongues are barbed. Do you think they'd get interlocked and stuck like velcro?
>>152569676Source of comic? If you remember.
>>152570114I unfortunately don't remember where I saw it, but it was pretty short and not-explicit. It might have even been a single panel, but basically Freckle is expressing unease/doubts and Ivy says something along the lines of "Trust me, Calvin, this is going to feel amazing". If I find it before the thread dies, I'll post it.
>>152549249Nah, Raggedy Ann is more influential, especially since Toy Story copied it.
>>152570353Nobody said Raggedy Ann & Andy wasn't influential. Does Toy Story truly count as "indie animation" though? Pixar was still its own company then, sure, but it was working on its early feature films with Steve Jobs and Disney money.
>>152532239all i want to know is what’s the big mystery behind Atlas’ death.Tracy can just reveal that and I’ll stop caring for a comic that’s pretty much dead now

Lackadaisy has been called "the Thief and the Cobbler of comics" and there are some parallels, but it’s not exactly true- The Thief and the Cobbler was always intended to be a full feature film but Lackadaisy was *not* intended to be a full comic. Tracy wasn’t working in comics beforehand, she was a concept artist and graphic designer for game studios, and Lackadaisy was her collection of ideas and drafts and concept pieces in the hopes of pitching it as a show, or potentially even a film, and she eventually made some quick comics to set a tone. However these comics got a lot of attention and quickly took on a life of their own and soon enough it stopped being a pitch for something and became a dedicated comic. It became a comic because at that point in Tracy’s life and career, she felt it was the best way to introduce people to her characters and tell their story. But the comics changed over time. Tracy’s skill grew. Updates became less frequent, but more elaborate. Even before the "hiatus" we were getting new updates at a glacial pace because Tracy's growing sense of perfectionism and her borderline obsessive attention to detail was forcing her to spend a lot of time on each comic, working through it, refining it, going back and redoing things, refining things again, et cetera. Continuing this story through frequent updates was no longer possible unless she was willing to make compromises, cut back a bit, perhaps scale things down to a way they were back in the Volume 1 days- something she was not willing to do. This isn't a wrong choice. She was never on some schedule or under obligation to continue the story at a set pace. But it's been very wearing on the fans, as a lot of people on this board (myself included) can attest to.
>>152575077Fortunately for Tracy (and unfortunately for us comic fans) the decision of whether to sacrifice craft and quality for faster storytelling wasn't one that she had to make in the end, because she suddenly got what she wanted from the beginning: a team of people producing an animated show with her art direction and her characters. She’s moved on. The story (eventually, allegedly) will be told in a different medium. It will be told as an animated show because once again, at this point in Tracy's life and career, she feels it's the best way to introduce people to her characters and tell their story. It’s up for debate if we will ever find out what happened to Atlas, or how the big storm will affect things, who lives or who dies, all the other intrigue, we probably won’t even find out if Mordecai got that guy out of that warehouse. The comic is not “on hiatus”, it’s over. Lackadaisy will not be finished because it cannot be finished, and even if it could be finished it would not be finished.
>>152575103>she suddenly got what she wanted from the beginning: a team of people producing an animated show with her art direction and her charactersCite your sources. There is no evidence whatsoever that this was always the goal. The way that Tracy and Fable (director) talk about it is that Fable was the one who approached Tracy and pitched the idea which would indicate that it wasn't something Tracy had originally been planning on. I think they were originally going to do a short film, but then the crowdfund exploded so they made it into a pilot. Then the second crowdfund did even better so they're just rolling with what comes their way. Opportunities like this don't come up very often, so if the timing is right, it seems kind of stupid to specifically turn them down.
>>152575162>There is no evidence whatsoever that this was always the goal. Not only that. I pretty sure Tracy has mentioned being approached in the past and rejecting the offers because they were Tom Wolfe style "throw the option rights at Hollywood, take their money, and run as you can" sort of deals.
>>152575407>I pretty sureGod damn it. Now I look like a retard.
>>152575414>>152575407>Now I look like a retard. You're good. We knew what you meant. And yes, she's gone on record stating that after the pilot dropped she and Fable were approached by a handful of mainstream Hollywood folks who were interested, but ultimately she didn't want to lose control (or ownership) of her IP, so they decided to crowdfund the next episodes. They only decided to work with Glitch because the deal they were offering was so impossibly good that there was really no reason not to. I think the phrase Tracy specifically used was "they made us an offer we couldn't refuse".
