Anyone else have a love/hate relationship with this series as a whole? Collectively I think it has a lot of fun ideas, picked from various cartoons, movies, and comics, yet I can't really say I'm a diehard fan of really any specific incarnation. Is that weird? Is it better when silly, or serious in tone? Do you prefer Foot Ninjas as robots, people, or both? Is the true villain Shredder or Kang?
2003's pretty good for about three seasons before things get too weird. Also the bad future episode is 100% ripped off from Gargoyles doing the same thing a decade earlier.
There's a colored version of that pic.
>>152590937>Do you have a love/hate relationship with the franchise?Yeah kind ofWatching what Nick did to the 2003 originals in 2012 hurts a lot since Hun got turned into a Lee expy and Bishop became significantly lamer (though his character does come from an idea that the 2003 writers had while making Bishop).Being honest, especially with how Paramount's currently treating the IP, Nick buying TMNT may have been a bad idea in the end since iterations are being cranked out for two seasons max and the older stuff thats not 87 (overadvertised for how meh it is compared to other iterations) is being fairly forgotten (especially 2003 unfortunately).
>>152590967Yeah I did that >>152591436I hate the recent stuff. They sound like pre-teens, and the 2D series before that made a lot of weird choices
>>152590937They put out enough new stuff without relying on '87 too much for me ever hate this series, unlike Power Rangers' Mighty Morphin and Pokemon's Kanto.
>>152592405Ranger comics are weird
>>152590937>Collectively I think it has a lot of fun ideas, picked from various cartoons, movies, and comics, yet I can't really say I'm a diehard fan of really any specific incarnation. Is that weird? Not really. Every TMNT incarnation does various things right and various things wrong. Watch or read enough of it and you end up with this nebulous impression of all the best things TMNT could be, but rarely ever is.Not helped by this series having so many incarnations and iterations and one-offs that rehash similar, but slightly different beats. Like how the Last Ronin isn't a mirage sequel, but it kinda plays with the Mirage continuity. Everyone has these slightly different takes on the 4 brothers, Splinter, and Shredder. There's no definitive edition. Not even the Mirage version, which got more cartoony than the Fred Wolf cartoon, and way too far up its own ass than the Archie comics. So everyone just kind of envisions their own personal little interpretation of what the series could be and what makes it great, and then gripes whenever the newest version hits some of those beats, but not others.
2003bro... How could this be?
>>152594478Future seasons and then Back to the Sewers killed a lot of good will. Also a lot of those weird decisions like the body horror Stockman stuff and Ch'rell Shredder weren't the best ideas.
>>152594478>>152594776Seven seasons with a multiverse movie finale is more than any series could ask for these days.
>>152594776I get what Utrom Shredder is going for: trying to combined Shredder and Krang into a single villain. But in practice it just sapped a lot of Shredder's malice to know he was a slimy little brain-looking dude.
>>152594478FUCK YEAH! 1987 TURTLEBROS KEEP ON WINNING!
>>152594944Utrom Shredder is overrated, he should killed by Leo in early.SAINW is just some stupid mi sery porn that didn't give Donnie any character development.
>>152595166As >>152590956 says, Same As It Never Was is literally just the same thing Gargoyles did back in the 90s during the Avalon arc. They even do a similar-feeling tragic death.
>>152594000IDW TMNT is a example; even though they have many interesting and potential new ideas, they will ultimately fucked up, and want to return to "basic" to save their comic.
>>>152590937I a have a love/LOVE relationship with 87 April O'Neil as a whole. Very big fun ideas! Better when silly.
>>152596728Sweet
>>15259093780s TMNT cartoon IS TMNT
>>152598431Based and truthpilled
>>152590937I think TMNT, as a franchise, is diverse enough and has been around so long that any interpretation, any movie/series/comic will peak someone’s interest. That’s why it’s still going on to this day. Obviously the comics and the original cartoon and movie are the popular versions.

If you’re going to spam AI sloppa at least do something interesting. Maybe her bending over or tied up?
>>1525909371At it's best TMNT is the story of a superhero universe, told from the POV of a team of street level heroes.
Rise of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles was ass and I'm glad its dead.
>>152594776I like Back to the Sewer aside from some of the artstyle changes buck Fast Forward really did suck major ass
>come into April thread>it's all slop
>>152595622In concept and on paper, I want to love IDW TMNT a whole lot more than I actually do. A lot of the ideas work, but their execution fucking sucks.
