I think the extremely restrictive crowd funding debacle or situation underlined just how much series creator massa grew to hate the show's growing non-Dutch fan base, which led to him subsequently canceling Ongezellig out of spite.

The original comics were Curry & some other character, which were prototypes that would later be used in creating the Ongezellig girls. I don't recall an actual comic of series even existing.
