Whether it's well done or not is a different discussion, but Starline being an intentional self aware commentary on Eggman and the formula of the series was obvious from the beginning, and yet a lot of fans deluded themselves that it was all accidental, that Starline wasn't telegraphed to become deluded with Eggman then think he could outstage him then get beaten from the beginning.
