I thnk Michael and Zach geniunenly cannot work for big professional projects. They both talked about how much social frustration and stress it is to deal with all the professional stuff that goes into making an actual show that gets released on platforms and TV, and how every single episode needs so many financial, political and work related talks that its a major burnout on your daily life. I can really sympathize with them but their reasoning of "hey we don't want it to get like other adult comedy shows which get made fun of" is retarded. The simpsons didn't start putting out critically acclaimed episodes until season 3, and its "golden age" lasted nearly 10 seasons. South park didn't start putting real effort into the episodes (according to M and T directly) until season 5, and its golden age lasted until season 19. Rick and Morty did fall off after season 3 but Rick and Morty is a 22 minute show that pretty much did everything it could in those 3 seasons. Smiling Friends has 11 minute episodes and the show has so so so much fucking left that it could do.

As someone going in who wanted to love Smiling Friends from the beginning, that 1st episode made me so worried the rest of the show would be random wacky (tm) humor. Luckily it's pretty much the only episode that completely one-note. The Mr. President episode was a the good verison of this episode.

The TV exec bit is too on the nose but meh. For what it's worth, I will say I wasn't totally sold on the show until the Shrimp episode so maybe Mr Frog would do better placed later in the series. Mr President is awful though.
