The G1 movie may have originally intended it to be permanent (didn't even last a season though), but let's not pretend there haven't been all sorts of similar shakeups in the 40 years since. I haven't minded Kirkman so far, but this is a weird change. I like the underdog premise of Optimus not-Prime going up against Megatron and Megatron's reaction to it, though.
