Do you mind when comic art is deformed or blurred for effect? Do you prefer it to look clean?
>smear frames in comicsi cant really think any off the top of my head, i think it'd be interesting
>>152697177I like when superman flies and his cape becomes a red blur
Its one of those things you need to really know what you are doing to pull it off otherwise it looks like you drew smudge
>>152697177>Do you mind when comic art is deformed or blurred for effect? Do you prefer it to look clean?clear is better
>>152697177Comics don't use enough of it>look cleanWhat do you mean look clean? What does that entail? pic related? You're drawing comics here not statues! They move! How else are you going to convey the speed and intensity of their motion without deforming them? In animation this is 101 basics. Deform them, add speedlines, smears, blurs. Comics and their obsession with realism has been a blight on the whole medium
Depends on the artist. Gene Colan could do it and make it look good.
>>152697177>>152697961I can't think of examples off the top of my head, but just comparing these two pages the difference in the sense of motion is staggering. Maybe western artists should give it a try more often
>>152697177Smear paneling for a full page is pretty cool. Looks bad tho, very very rarely could you make this look nice and clean. Which is the point of a smear frame. This is just some fine art bullshit, the smear should be going left to right bounce&crush crossdown-right left the bottom of the page is fine tho But yeah fucking with paneling normally looks ugly as sin.
>>152697177It's fine.
>>152697177>mind when comic art is deformed or blurred for effectThis should honestly be used more with comics that have a lot of movement/action
>>152697177No
>>152697177I appreciate a little stylization in my comix, 'specially when it's a calculated choice and not something that feels random or gimmicky.
>>152697177I prefer speedlines when they speed.
>>152697177These inks are clean
>>152697205It's hardly the same as when cartoons doing but you see it often with fast characters, though I guess that's more of a motion blur.
>>152704187Nice
>>152697177Deformed is better
>>152697177Action in comics needs to be more elastic and explosive. This >>152697961 is no good.
>>152701642Whaddaya mean, "No"??
>>152697205how about like this?
>>152707925nta, but that's different
>>152707925That doesn't really work. I get what the artist is trying to do, but it looks more like he's morphing into some grotesque monster and sprouting extra limbs.
